Report: Jim Tressel resigns

I'm just happy for Gordon Gee now that he doesn't have to worry about Tressel firing him. :jimlad:

I guess it's not really a surprise. Tressel beat it out the back door before the NCAA drops the hammer on tOSU. He looks bad now, but he'll resurface somewhere else.

Agreed. Look for him to take a year off and start back up at a mid major in the next few years.

I bet this guy wishes his school hadn't moved to the Big Ten... now it'll just be awkward.

Pelini is a Buckeye guy, born and raised.

The NCAA could still put restrictions on him coming back. Just because he isn't there anymore doesn't mean that he is in the clear.

All this means is that he saw that they were going to come down on tOSU and he didn't want to be a part of it anymore.

If they're only talking Ohio State ties, Pelini is much more tied than Meyer, just because I question how much of a connection being a grad assistant somewhere creates this many years later.

But Meyer is the much bigger name. He has to be the first one.

So we'll get weekly Urban Meyer updates, and while he doesn't commit right away, we can watch the constant distraction in Huskerland.

I think a few teams do that. But I get your point.

I think we can ride out the rest of the Bill Snyder era at Kansas State... it can't go THAT much longer... can it?? Pinkel to Ohio State could absolutely kill that athletic department given Mike Alden's ability to hire coaches lately (see Frank Haith).

Re: Tressel resigns

Apples and oranges. I think Rhoads is a damn good coach, but Chizik was the biggest and brightest rising star as a defensive coordinator at Texas. He was THE hot ticket. Now that was dampened a bit by his time at ISU, but he still had far more hype than Rhoads has now. Trust me, there is nothing to worry about.

this does not really surprise me at all. I know that Bo Pelini has come out publically and said that he is happy and staying at NU. But if I was a Husker fan I would be getting very worried right now. tOSU is a national powerhouse, not to mention his alma matter. I would see tOSU pursuing Bo very hard......

Michigan and Ohio State both having to make coaching changes in the same off season, when was the last time that happened?

Now if the NCAA could only put itself on probabtion for allowing the 5 buckey players to play in the sugar bowl.

What a sham. The only reason they're coming down hard on OSU is because the media uncovered this cess pool and left the NCAA with no choice.

That was a sham. I still can't believe they allowed them idiots to play in the bowl game. The NCAA is a joke. They knew that nobody would tune in to watch the Sugar Bowl if OSU was missing 5 of it's starters, including their hero Terrelle Pryor. So they let them play in order to rake in the money. Hypocrites.

I think who they get as the next coach will depend a lot on what happens at their NCAA hearing in August. If they get hit as hard as USC did, I doubt they get a big name guy to jump to OSU.

I was just telling my father in law yesterday it's nearly a crime that Tressel hasn't lost his job with all that's going on. Glad to see this happen as Ohio States reputation was going down the toilet.

Interesting they're going to wait a whole year before hiring a new coach. My bet is on Urban Meyer becoming the new coach.
