Report: Jim Tressel resigns

I can see them getting USC type penalties. Scholarship reductions and postseason ban for a few years. I bet Pryor is done at OSU, he won't play this year

So this afternoon, Pryor showed up to the Woody Hayes facility in a new Nissan 350Z with temp plates. What a moron. Holy ****.

I'd be okay not facing this guy every year...

He stands between Iowa State and bowl games year in and year out.
Here's my list of top candidates for tOSU FBHC position:

  • Urban Meyer for obvious reasons.
  • Bo Pelini for his tOSU connections.
  • Gary Pinkel for his success at Mizzou.
  • Gary Patterson for keeping TCU in the top ten annually.
  • Chris Peterson for keeping BSU in the top five annually.
  • Mark Farley for keeping UNI one of the top FCS programs, and doing it honestly. Tressel was hired from the FCS ranks, so Farley just may be a good target for the Buckeyes.
Forget Ferentz, he won't take that job with so many expectations attached to it, such as beating Mich. every year and winning a nat'l title every six years or so. Probably most on my list may feel the same way; TIFWIW. We will have one full year to see how this drama all plays out. Just my two-cents.

I pity whoever they get to come into this situation, though they'll be paid well anyway. NCAA has two of the major powers on the hot seat now, OSU and USC.

Maybe Dan Hawkins wants a new challenge now that the Buffs cut him loose... :jimlad:

I suppose the interim guy could run the table with the 5 guys suspended and take the job for himself....:jimlad:

Here's a link taking Urban Meyer out of consideration for now:
Even so he's taken himself out of the running this year,we have a whole year to see if he changes his mind.

Not surprising, given that we still don't know how hard OSU will be hit. It also wouldn't be surprising to see Meyer come calling when the dust settles.

Urban Meyer's word is about as ironclad as a bowl of mashed potatoes.

He'd be an idiot to say anything but what he said about the situation. I actually kind of like Urban Meyer. He seems like a pretty solid guy.

I'm not sold on him. I mean the guy leaves Florida for health reasons. Then he changes his mind like a month later and comes back. Then he leaves for health reasons/wanting to spend time with family. He then takes a job with ESPN that requires him to be away from his family quite a bit.

I agree he'd be stupid to say anything other than what he did today. But I'm sure he's well aware of that fact, too. I just don't believe a word he says anymore when it comes to this sort of thing.

Respectfully disagree. I think that he came back to finish the job that he started. You can't deny that working for ESPN is going to be far less of a commitment than coaching a DI team would be. He's going to have a ton of more time on his hands.

I'm in grad school at CSU, and saw him speak earlier this year with Sonny Lubick. He seemed very genuine. I don't think he's the type of guy to blow smoke up someone's ***.

That said, a year from now, tOSU may be a good opportunity for him.

Tressel won 4 championships in D1AA, Farley 0. I would not mind Gary Pinkel leaving Mizzou at all (even though his teams somewhat underperform, he has that program rolling). Ferentz will get a nice raise for getting a mention in the newspapers, even if it is only the CR Gazette. I'm thinking if Brian Kelly has a good year at Notre Dame, Meyer will definitely go for the OSU job. If Brian Kelly struggles he will probably wait for the Notre Dame job to open up.

Urban Meyer says "this fall" twice in that quote. That isn't by accident. He's waiting to see how hard OSU gets hit. If they get off easy, Meyer will be coaching there in 2012-13.

I wonder if/when someone is going to start snooping around the men's basketball program. I understand that football is king in Columbus and that the football players likely got the bulk of the benefits and perks, but logic would suggest that if this stuff all got past the compliance department then it was probably just as easy for other programs to grease some things through.

This is a very good day for hawk fans (and bad for ISU). This will mean yet another Big 10 powerhouse goes down and will mean at least an extra victory over OSU that otherwise they wouldn't have seen.
