Does anyone think its sorta difficult to recruit big city kids (which alot of these recruits either live or 'some' aspire to live) to Ames? or state of Iowa in general? Just an honest question. Don't get me wrong, I love Ames, and when we get players here, I think they love it too. Some like 'small', while others don't. It's not like Stillwater, Waco, Lawrence, are big attraction cities, either, I wouldn't think, but maybe they're closer to hot spots, I'm not sure. And I also don't know what campuses have to offer that would sway them to fall in love with a place. Winning traditions and coaching staffs are still probably more what they look at first, though.
It is kind of interesting isnt it? I had to spend a day in Waco TX a couple years ago. When we pulled out of town I remember thinking, how in the heck can they get any kid that isn't a Southern Baptist Texan to attend this School. Absolutely nothing down there but Dust, Baylor Bears, and Dr Pepper. Only green I saw was the football field turf, everything else went dormant. I asked a local I was working with if there was a drought going on and he just chuckled at me and replied "no this is what we call summer." Dust, unbelievable amounts of dust, no trees no windbreaks, just dust.
