Just so I'm prepared, what's the worse case scenario for today? After all, I've been an ISU fan for 50 years so I want to steel myself just in case.
The absolute worst? PAC and ACC top schools decide to merge, becoming the default #3 conference. I’m talking UO, UW, Clemson, FSU, UNC, UVA, VT, Miami, Utah, Duke, UA, ASU. For many reasons, this won’t happen today.

Realistically… GK brings a deal to the table that keeps the 9 together and then adds SDSU to hold at 10. UO and UW decide they’re going to bookend the conference and commit long term. PAC goes on offense next time when streaming is more popular.

This is a lot of “what if”. I truly feel like the XII won this round. We don’t know if the PAC is dead or just down… this week will tell us more.

Worst case is that the PAC bands together and we’re stuck with UCONN. Not a great result, maybe even a bad deal considering our position of power. But seems less likely to happen by the day.

Actually, worst case is if we don’t add UConn. At that point you’re stuck with 13 teams and an impossibility to create a 9-game schedule.

UConn is not gonna happen. Imagine being Arizona President Robbins saying you threw away your lifeline to the Big 12 to stay with those who will stab you in the back. incredibly stupid. This is Survivor.
Unless the PAC 12 pulls something out of their ass and somehow gets to similar money as the Big 12, with similar exposure, I think it's an obvious choice. FWIW, I don't think they'll get either.

This chart gives me comfort that Arizona will bolt.

If they really are last in football viewership and the subscription revenue is based upon viewership over the last 10 years then AZ will be at the bottom in PAC revenue Making the Big 12 guarantee very attractive.

The same chart likely helps UW and Oregon justify staying.

I wonder what viewership is for PAC basketball.
I do business with Arizona fans, a lot of them. They are like Iowa State fans in the 90s, huge into basketball, excited about football for about a week in September but then the focus quickly shifts to basketball. I'm sure if their football program were better their fans would be way move involved and viewership will go up.

The B12 ends up with UConn. I just don't see a nightmare for ISU. Klavikoff isn't pulling a $40million deal out of his butt to blow up the existing B12. I'll be surprised if he has anything past 20.

You guys need better vision for a worst case scenario. After all, we are Iowa State.

- Kliavkoff announces a blockbuster PAC/ACC merger with a pending media deal close to SEC per-school

- Notre Dame shrugs, says they’re on board with B1G

- B1G swoops in to add Kansas as well

- Yormark overreacts, adds UConn … plus USF, Tulsa, and the Colorado School of Mines

- FOX/ESPN say whoa, there, that wasn’t our deal, sorry, here’s $15 million as a parting gift but we’re done with the B12

- Okie State, Cincinnati & WVU head to the PACACC

- Iowa State asks if the MWC still has an opening

See? You gotta start really thinking outside the box for WORSE worst case scenarios.

Seriously, though, the downside from today would be if somehow Kliavkoff’s deal is enough to hold the PAC9 together, and then they likely add SDSU (we know they’d go).

The B12 would need a 14th for 9 conference games - in this situation UConn would be the most likely.

I don’t particularly like that outcome - adding Colorado and UConn while the PAC stumbles along trying to consolidate is not much of a “win” - but financially it’d be all right for a while.

Then we wait for the ACC.

Don’t forget, Iowa and Nebraska to the SEC

It's really not an overwhelming victory if just Colorado and Arizona come over either, but if that's what the networks will pay for
