I'd say Fridays are annoying. High school football is big in Texas and many other states. Feel like it would always be terrible ratings. Leave Friday night for the fun belt and aac.
Friday night might be a niche for a Big 12 west "after dark" - it could start late enough that it wouldn't overlap with Midwest HS game attendance ... go to the game, return & watch a 10:30-ish kickoff. It'd be like the first game of the CFB weekend.

Doing it every week, I don't know about that.

I got the viewer data for 2021 into a spreadsheet. Still playing w data, will eventually post some insights.

Those weeknight games get decent viewers, because there isnt any competition. They bring value to the networks. Id expect we are gonna see that for sure to enhance revenue.

I don't think we'd play every Friday. The Big 12 would probably have one Friday night game and one Thursday night game every week. So we might play on both nights once a season.

I figured for some time the reason B1G is dicking around and hasnt taken more P12 teams is ND.

So if they get ND, then its either JUST Stanford, or else they may go for 20 with Cal and UW too.

Great academics for all, Stanford, USC and ND all happy together. Cal makes the guvner shut up. All good.

Will Kliavkoff blame the Big12 for that too??

Is the Thursday/Friday night games tier 2 or 3? I assume it's only ESPN pushing for these games. Does fox or cbs have interest in having these games.

This podcast from the Athlon Sports guys is a must listen. Start at the 28:00 mark.

The TLDR version:
B1G is currently evaluating Oregon/WA/Stanford/Cal

If B1G passes, than we get those four + the corners.

If B1G takes them, we still get the corners.

He spoke pretty confidently that
1. There is no way/no how the PAC survives.

2. CBS may be willing to over pay for an expanded and rebranded Big 12 (they’re in danger of being shut out of the SEC/B1G).

He went on to surmise, after speaking with industry sources, that the new look Big 12 could be playing Thur/Fri/Sat after dark games.

He sounded pretty confident in all this, and that we’ll probably learn about the next expansion moves within about a month.
That was a very interesting podcast! Thanks for sharing!!

We’d have room for both all of those imo. The chance those are available and the Big 20 hadn’t lost schools is very unlikely, but we’d have room for 4 ACC schools even if Big 20.

One unwanted school, Cal in this example, should not stop getting 90% of what is wanted. The difference between Cal and whatever school Cal would force out is immaterial in the big picture.

It is not just killing the PAC, it is removing the chance ESPN kills the Big 12. A Big 16/18/20 all make nearly certain the Big 12 survives. You don’t pass on that because of Cal inclusion,.

The Pac sticking together increases the chance ESPN exploits the big 12 schools in the east and Houston to get Big 12 dissolution in helping their ACC dilemma. The bait and switch odds high, but with unequal revenue sharing, they could maybe appease FSU and Co, adding WVU, Houston, and Cincinnati, getting the rest of the Big 12 to blink- some to PAC and some to ACC. Likely leaving ISU and KSU out
Best case scenario for ISU is obviously for the Big XII to be the #3 conference once the ACC gets stripped. Worst case would be to end up with the PAC and Big XII leftovers in the #4 conference.

The Big XII is in a good position now, it seems. Picking up a combination of schools from the PAC that keeps the per-team level with the current/projected means we’ll be roughly on par with the ACC through their current GOR. If that’s the case, I’m not sure how the ACC- manages to raid from the Big XII to backfill Clemson/ Miami /FSU and/or others going to the P2. It would seem to be a similar situation to where the PAC is today - unable to backfill with P5 schools because they’re behind the all the other power conferences.

I’m fine with adding OR/ WA/ Stanford in addition to others knowing that they may leave for the P2 at some point in the future so long as the others added that will almost certainly not be going still maintain the per-school value.

While adding 8+ PAC schools would almost ensure the Big XII would survive in some fashion even if the ACC/P2 raid it, I think it would establish it as the #4 conference now and a place for the ACC- to pick from when the time comes, if not sooner.

Remember last year when Mike Wanstatt was saying that KU and ISU will go to the BIG? How do any of these guys know anything?
Dave Wannstedt never knew anything and everyone said so when he said that other than KSU and ISU fans who wanted to believe it. Wannstedt is an idiot who was talking out of his ass.

Not exactly sure.
No, and they won’t ask. The academic money is worth billions. They aren’t going to jeopardize that in any way for an extra $10M-$20M for sports when they are already one it the very highest revenue athletic departments in the country.
Change in conferences doesn’t change their academic grant money one bit at all

I have zero interest in any of what will be the available ACC schools.

They are kinda gross and not appealing.
I don’t see a scenario where Pitt gets picked up by the P2. NC St and VA Tech will likely be left behind. Louisville is somewhat interesting, but there might a reason the Big XII passed on them before.
