Random Thoughts VIII: The Ocho

One not-so-good thing happened at our cookout Saturday night. My friend's 3 year old was sitting at our high-stop patio table. As he was climbing down his foot caught and he did a face-first swan dive onto our patio. I swore he had to have broken his nose or some teeth or something.

He lifts his head up with that "who the **** put that concrete there" look on his face, saw that the adults were freaking out, and then promptly lost his mind. Fortunately, his mom was only about halfway through her first beer, so she took him to the ER for precautionary purposes. Being a concerned parent, I told her to leave her older daughter there so she didn't have to tow her along.

And being a good friend, I finished her beer.

Did anyone see the international space station this past weekend? My friend pointed it out to me while we were outside. It was a bright light travelling northeast around 7:30 - 8:00 PM Friday and Saturday. You pretty much saw it on one horizon and then 8 minutes later it was across the sky and gone.

It was crazy seeing something moving across the sky that fast. There is an app to follow it I guess. It was over New Zealand and then, 30 minutes later, it was over Kansas City. Four minutes after that we could still see it and it was over Quebec.

My inner space nerd was loving it.

I'm O- and usually give doubles. In fact Sept. 15th was the 130 days or so since my last donation so I guess I should be making an appointment.
 
This Kim Kardashian ransom thing is kind of crazy, if true.

Edit: not ransom. Held at gunpoint in her hotel room by men dressed as police with jewelry worth millions taken. Still crazy.

As a driver they jump their turn and try to hit me. As a pedestrian/runner they see me, refuse to yield the crosswalk and try to hit me. As a biker they don't even see or acknowledge me and then try to hit me.

when we got to kickball last week, the previous team was still playing. A dad was there with this dainty girl - I'd say maybe 4? She seemed preschool aged but was just tiny. Dad picks her up to walk down the last two bleachers and he trips. He caught himself via shin on the bottom bleacher (that sounded painful) but oh boy, we all thought we were watching that little girl get smushed.
