Random Thoughts VIII: The Ocho

So there is a guy a few cubes away that has the background on his desk phone as the I-State Logo (as do I) and has his diplomas from ISU up in his cube. Last year an NDSU flag went up on the outside of his cube but I chalked it up to being a lost bet or something and made some comment about it that he looked confused on. Now there is a Bison metal logo thing in the window of his cube. Not sure if I am confused or if he is.

It will be less funny when one of those fools gets shot...
I plan on getting my permit to carry when I turn 21 and if I saw a clown with a knife running at me with a full head of steam there isn't no way I would defend myself. I'm surprised one of them hasn't been shot and killed already

So it's time for my semi-annual give blood spiel; obviously this doesn't apply if you can't give blood or you have a phobia of needles

So I gave blood today and you guys should too. It's not that bad; I only sobbed uncontrollably like a small child from when my finger got pricked to about an hour and a half after I was done. Plus you can always justify it based on catholic guilt/righteous anger. How guilty you would feel if you knew someone died because they ran out of blood and your donation would have helped. Or how angry would you feel at everyone who didn't give blood if your wife, child, parents, or totally platonic friend was in an accident, needed blood and because there was a shortage, they died. I would be really pissed off, and that's why I donate.

Also, if you are type O, A- or B- you can give double red cells which take a little longer but you can't donate for twice as long so the Red Cross doesn't call and annoy you as much.

Seriously though, if you can, you really should consider donating. It barely hurts, it doesn't take long, and your donation really could have an impact on someone

Plus, wearing that red bandage-strap thing after you get done makes me feel like a bad ass for some unknown reason, so there's also that.

I given plasma 75 times in the past year in a half so that counts for something right? I honestly couldn't tell you if their actually giving the plasma to help people or their just making all of that up and selling it for other uses.

I do a lot of drugs that require needle sharing, so they usually turn me down when I try to.

I really shouldn't try catching up on this thread after being away for 4-5 days, but, ya know, kickball updates are my jam.

We had some friends over Friday and Saturday and did the grill out and fire pit thing, complete with large amounts of alcohol. We had a Disney movie projected onto the side of our house each night for the kids.

Autumn just puts other seasons to shame.

I second your plea! Donating blood is quick, and is a huge service to the community. If you can't afford financial donations to charities, this is an excellent way to give of yourself...literally.

I'm one who can't because they get a false positive for infectious hepatitis from most screenings. I had non-infectious hepatitis associated with mono when I was in high school...but the less expensive screens don't differentiate. I used to do apheresis donation a couple of times a month at Mary Greeley, but when they switched screening methods I couldn't donate any more. :(

Sure, why not. And I actually think it is useful because you can give it to people who aren't injured enough to need blood. At least, that was how I thought it worked

You obviously didn't read my intro, Pants. I'm pretty sure doing massive amounts of drugs falls under my "unless you can't give blood." But just go in with the IV already in your arm. Then they pretty much have to take the blood

Did anyone see the international space station this past weekend? My friend pointed it out to me while we were outside. It was a bright light travelling northeast around 7:30 - 8:00 PM Friday and Saturday. You pretty much saw it on one horizon and then 8 minutes later it was across the sky and gone.

It was crazy seeing something moving across the sky that fast. There is an app to follow it I guess. It was over New Zealand and then, 30 minutes later, it was over Kansas City. Four minutes after that we could still see it and it was over Quebec.

My inner space nerd was loving it.
