Could see the water vapor cloud from the nuclear power plant in Byron, IL today, which is about 40 miles away. It was kind of eerie to look at since it looked like a mushroom cloud.

I miss seeing the clouds from Duane Arnold near Palo. One of those things you just always saw and was nostalgic.

Asking me a question at 7:00 a.m. made me chuckle.

Assume this is a small maple? Also guessing this is one of the red maple/silver maple hybrids. Young maples have that smooth thin bark and the sun side can have the frost cracking BC described and I bet that is what this is. For small trees it can help to wrap then in paper tree wrap during the winter until they mature. Not too late to make sure they are well watered going into winter. This drought likely didn't cause this but will slow the recovery

Some trees will heal over in time. Some never do like the ones I used to run past on the north and west shore of lake Bde Maka Ska. The winter sun off the lake ice eventually hurt them so bad they cut them down.
Thanks, I did not expect an answer right away, but I didn't think I would be on here when you woke up and us poor schlubs were working.

It isn't a small tree, it's about 20" diameter. Also I just checked and there are actually 3 of them: an 8" crack on the SW, an 8" on the E and another 3" on the E.

I chuckled to myself when I first saw the thread about terrible/awful journalism (an AI-created article on a bought-out website) and then I saw this article. I suppose if you know, you know. But putting such a photo with nearly no info isn't good journalism either, regardless of who originally wrote it.

Wife’s van wouldn’t start yesterday afternoon out in the country no less. Had to get it towed. Gonna be around $600 for a new starter and tow. Wake up this morning go in the basement to put something in the dryer. Dryer top was wet aluminum pan next to the dryer was full of dirty water. Damn dishwasher drain issue. FML!!

The first was son’s car got ketchup and mustard put all over it at their place in Iowa City on Tuesday night.

ISU plates in Iowa City? Or just random?
Just Story county plates so I believe just random. Seems with all the lack of parking at houses, landlords are not very informative on which spots are for each renter. Son thought it was their house spot and it wasn’t. Honest mistake. Just ****** neighbors I guess.

Did resolve the dishwasher issue though. Praise the Lord the problem was in the front and didn’t have to dig into it!
