New roof is done, mostly, still need to have new gutter screens installed.

Was up on the roof several times today, first thing in the morning with foreman and crew chief of the install crew. Was back up three times in late afternoon. This isn't the norm for the elderly owner to be up hopping around with the young guys on the roof. LOL, I can guarantee no other homeowners in my neighborhood was likely up on the roof with their contractors. Last trip up was with crew chief, only one who spoke English. Good guy. Overall his crew did a nice job and didn't make a mess. Pretty meticulous, they even painted the plumbing pipe vents.

The 70 feet or so of heavy duty custom trim at the top of my "shed" roof over the vaulted ceiling was covered with lichens and other growth after being up there for 20 years. Was heavy duty commercial grade stuff that was screwed down so wanted to reuse it. Didn't want to put it back all dirty like that so I scrubbed and scrapped the seven sections. Sort of a PITA but it ended up looking good.

Hey, @BoxsterCy, should I be concerned that there are a couple of cracks developing in the bark of one of my maple trees? They are cracks clear through the bark, one of them probably 6 or more inches long. You can see the trunk of the tree behind which appears mostly normal but there is some black flesh under there as well.

A couple of the maples nearby have had tar on the leaves in the past couple of years but this one has had little to none.

What kind of maple tree?

Bigger one is on the east. Smaller one is SW.
Found this.

What you've described is probably a frost crack. It is very common on Norway and red maples, due to their thin bark. It usually occurs on the south or southwest side of the tree and is a response to extreme fluctuation in temps between night and day.

I live in Minnesota. We don't get fluctuations in temperature here - unless you count the difference between "stupid cold" and "MFing cold".

If it's the Appalachian Sippin Cream Butter Pecan, you will love it (better go buy a couple more). IMO it's better than the Ole Smokey brand.

I haven’t had their version. I had their banana pudding one and ole Smokey’s destroys them on that. Difference is OS hits you with a little shine taste first and then you get banana. The other one is the opposite so you have a shine taste last.

Clear lake sells their so maybe I will chill the coffee one and get a bottle of App and do a comparison.

Let me know what you think when comparing - and about the coffee one. We have some from Smith Creek, but I haven't pulled it out. We went to Branson a couple years ago and tried a bunch of samples, but haven't cracked them open.

My other favorite sipper is Coole Swan, an Irish cream liqueur .

30 hop for supper their pork tenderloin is a different deal but pretty good. Big Grove 1929 is a decent red ale.
It was off the route at 730 and eating at 830 not a terrible day. At least one more day, but if all goes well I may finish tomorrow.
30 Hop is a great choice on this side of town!

Asking me a question at 7:00 a.m. made me chuckle.

Assume this is a small maple? Also guessing this is one of the red maple/silver maple hybrids. Young maples have that smooth thin bark and the sun side can have the frost cracking BC described and I bet that is what this is. For small trees it can help to wrap then in paper tree wrap during the winter until they mature. Not too late to make sure they are well watered going into winter. This drought likely didn't cause this but will slow the recovery

Some trees will heal over in time. Some never do like the ones I used to run past on the north and west shore of lake Bde Maka Ska. The winter sun off the lake ice eventually hurt them so bad they cut them down.
