One article said a gust of wind may have pushed the ship sideways and that they were experiencing 30mph gusts. That seems fishy.
I don’t know if it was wind, but I heard they lost power, something happened (it might have been the wind or another shop bumping them) which caused them to start to turn sideways and by the time power came back on it was too late

I'd believe it, especially if it was blowing sideways. Lot of surface area, small ,manuevering area, and not a super fast reacting ship. If you get that much mass moving sideways, even a little, it takes a lot (power, time, and space) to correct it back (and you can't over correct otherwise you'll end up in the other bank).

I wouldn't have a phone without an Otter protecting it.
Lew doesn't like them because it makes his phone too fat to fit in his pocket. I hate handling his phone because I'm used to the otter, so every time he passes me his phone to look at something, I end up hitting buttons!

I have one of the thin ones, so it can fit in my pocket.

Seaman Jones: Conn, sonar! Crazy Ivan!
Capt. Bart Mancuso: All stop! Quick quiet!
[the ships engines are shut down completely]
Beaumont: What's goin' on?
Seaman Jones: Russian captains sometime turn suddenly to see if anyone's behind them. We call it "Crazy Ivan." The only thing you can do is go dead. Shut everything down and make like a hole in the water.
Beaumont: So what's the catch?
Seaman Jones: The catch is, a boat this big doesn't exactly stop on a dime... and if we're too close, we'll drift right into the back of him.

Now I need to watch the movie again! :D

I stayed up way too late last night watching (and sleeping in front of) that movie last night.

Used to have an otterbox but having to push so hard on the lock button through the rubber case broke the lock button over time.

I understand, its the 30 mph that seems crazy, that seems like a normal gust here. I can't imagine all of the forces pushing on that thing especially with all of those containers. You would think that there would be several systems that would be working on keeping it straight.

That ship is about the same size of the new world trade center (without its spire) on the surface. That's a lot of ship.

The shot of the USS Dallas breaching the ocean surface is awesome.

Also, if we see Sam Neill in something, or someone mentions that specific state, we say in a very bad accent "I would have liked to have seen Montana."

Hmmm, niece just asked me if I would be interested in dog sitting Josie The Dog for a week plus. Pondering. Haven't had a dogweiser in the house in 20 years. Would have been a no brainer this winter when I was pretty much in the house 24/7 other than daily 90 minute walkabout. Now I am out prowling around more in nature preserves and refuges not just down the street.

Decided that since I've burdened my niece with being executor of my estate that the least I could do is dog sit the schnauzer. Hope she doesn't freak out being dumped off at Uncle Boxster's house. Going to feed her squirrels and have her bark at deer and the stupid robins that are waking me up every morning.

I knew a stripper that went by the name Montana, and yes, he would have liked to see her.
