Question for negative posters

What about us fans that have been donating 12+ years? When do we get results? Do tell...

Only 12?

Donation to the AD?...yes. I donate to further the program in Wins.

Is there another reason? Sure isn't to buy snacks at the concession stand.

To support 18-22 year old student-athletes? To feel good? To support an institution you love? Obviously wins haven't been what's kept you donating to the ISU AD. If it were, why not just send a check to the Alabama AD? You'd get a much better short-term ROI.

I am a realist. Trained in analytic and logical thought by the Grace of the Big Bang Originator at Iowa State University of Science and Technology. I observe what I see to be True. I watched the Liberty Bowl. I observed the UNI game. What is the OP trying to achieve? Moral sanctimony? The pleasure of elitist indictment?

Anyone that predicted more than 4 wins with what was coming back doesn't know football.
You can't be serious. We look like complete trash and still could have gotten to 4 wins right now in the season if some of our coaches would get their heads out of their ***.

I write a separate check to the university foundation to "make myself feel good".

Get over yourself. The purpose of playing in the Big12 is to win games and win bowls. If it wasn't for Hoiball...my donation would most likely end this year.

Wow - you must not get the chance to attend any Tailgate Tour events, or Gridiron Club outings - I haven't heard Jamie or coaches talk about upping our donations just "to feel good," or because we "love Iowa State." They ask us to donate in order for ISU to compete in the Big 12, and, BTW, the coaches talk about the exciting future for their teams, and list the reasons they are optimistic. It's a sales pitch, plain and simple...

Well, you should have nothing to complain about then. I can guarantee you we are competing in the Big 12. They sold you on a long-term vision for the AD. Don't complain when the short-term results aren't what you hoped.

Why do you care? If it's all sunshine an lollipops why didn't you state you're proud of the coaches? I'm not going to apologize for being enough of a fan to be ****ed off. This offense is rudderless and you should be upset for those players you're proud of. I'm proud of them too and they deserve a lot better. This offense will win zero games going forward and it's on the coaching staff.

Also, we disagree on moral victories. (Just one persons opinion but...) You are what your record says you are.

Good question, weR138. I'm just curious about what negative posters think will be accomplished. Maybe it's worthwhile - I don't know. I'm not happy with the record, but I think the team is giving what they have. I haven't walked in their shoes.

Yes, we do disagree on moral victories. When it comes down to it, those are the only ones worth anything. No, close losses don't equal moral victories. But who is the spectator to say when the moral victory is won? I know I can't.

"You are what your record says you are," you write. Damn, man, that is sad. Do you really believe that? Do you think that would be a better plaque than Honor Before Victory?

How about Honor AND Victory? They aren't mutually exclusive.

You're right, they're not exclusive. Only one team can walk off the field with a victory. That's just a fact, and nothing can change it. But it's also true that anyone can walk off field with honor, self-respect, having fought the good fight, whatever you want to call it.

We are pathetic and our coaches make millions to make us not pathetic. They are not doing their job, so they deserve criticism.

Trying to convince other CycloneFanatics that things are worse than they seem? That would be a tough mission.

I wouldn't say I'm much of a negative poster. Just sick of watching this pathetic excuse for an offensive coordinator. And sick of watching CPR play musical chairs with our quarterbacks. Especially back and forth while in game.

That said, I've just stopped caring. And that's sad, as I live for Iowa State football. But my passion has been drained this season. I still love and support the Cyclones, but it's just not worth my energy this season. And that hasn't happened for me since Chiz. CPR is still my guy, but Mess is not, and if he's the OC next year, I'm pulling my financial support. I know it's not millions, but I can't continue to reason why I should financially back that product.

iowa state football has a number of problems....the fans are certainly not one of them

What do you expect to accomplish by complaining about negative posters? If you want to know what I expect to accomplish I'll tell you...nothing. It's a fansite. The purveyors of this site WANT me to post here and I feel like doing it.

The second bolded statement is the biggest disconnect between us. The vast majority of "negative" posters don't disagree with you. I see guys giving great effort while being poorly developed and trying to execute improper plays. It's not black and white. Just because I'm downbeat about the OC and O staff doesn't mean I want everyone fired and I think all the players suck, far from it. The negative posters on here are no worse than the ones who incessantly complain about them and try to paint them as bad fans.

Regardless of what people want to believe success is measured by the W/L record and enthusiasm is maintained or lost because of it. Sorry, that's just the way it is. Most Cyclone fans probably aren't asking for much more than a competitive team (I think that's how people stayed positive last year in spite of 6-7 and a 9th place finish). There's no excuse for not being competitive with the bottom half of the Big XII. Right now, it just feels like we're back to the 80's and early 90's type environment where we just find a way to lose to everybody (yesterday was a prime example). Frankly, it's just embarassing to be 1-8. Nobody owes me anything and I salute all of you that can stay upbeat and believe next year will be better. I also salute the players and really respect the effort they continue to put out. Just sad that things have disintegrated to this point. It didn't have to happen. Competent coaching should get you 3-4 wins in a year regardless of how many bad breaks you suffer. The Big XII isn't that good this year and we still can't run the pack.

I'm negative because the coaches are destroying all the positive momentum that the program has built, and putting us back in a position where we'd be an afterthought in realignment if it happens again. We're a laughingstock. Plain and simple.

And you can see the difference even within the program. Look at a guy like Jevohn Miller. Looks horrible to start the season and loses his starting job. But what happens? The coaching staff on the defensive side helped him get better. And while he isn't going to be on anybody's All Conference list he is showing progression every game. Same for Coe and multiple other guys on the defense. On defense you can also see evidence of game planning. Even when we get blown out you can see that we usually have the right defense out there and guys are in a position that they can make the play. And when they get blown up you can see in the next game how adjustments were made to give them a better chance of succeeding the next time around.

The defense reminds me of the wrestling team a few years ago. Outgunned and with a few guys out there that really shouldn't be, but have to be because there is nobody else. But given the chance by the coaches to win every battle and showing constant improvement. A team that you can't be happy with the results but a team that you can be proud of their preparation and effort.

On offense what do we see? Talent wasted, players regressing, and a complete lack of development. The in game play calling has gotten better during the course of the season. I will totally give Messingham that (though "better" is a relative term). But our preparation is still atrocious and the staff seems to have zero ability to put players in a position where they can succeed. That's where it is so bad. You could grab a random high school's Freshman Team coaches and they could do a better job leading our offense.

And the treatment of the quarterback position? I honestly pity our quarterbacks. They don't deserve what Messingham and Rhoads are doing to them.

We don't have a bunch of 5* guys out there but neither do most teams. We have the talent this season to be a 4-8 or 5-7 team, maybe even get a reach for 6-6. We have the talent to not be a laughingstock. Instead we're looking like a team that doesn't belong to be in FBS, much less in a BCS conference. During the conference realignment mess of a few years ago seasons just like this one were why we were an afterthought that nobody wanted.

I don't expect 10 win seasons. But I do expect the coaches to do their jobs.

I guess I just don't get it. It's a football game. At the end of the game, I just said, "Well, we lost again." But for people to turn this board into a three day pity party just boggles my mind. Is Iowa State losing the worst thing in your life that the same discussion just goes on and on? Maybe it's because I am older, and lived through a lot of crap, that losing a football or basketball game just seems inconsequential. But I keep watching them, and will continue, and I'll be thrilled when we have good seasons.

And please, the crap about Rhoads needing to fire this or that coach immediately - he already stated weeks ago that he doesn't believe in doing that mid-season. So wait and see what he does at the end of the season before bringing this up again.
