I guess I'd like to know it sounds like he is pass heavy and used to the spread. Can he run/scramble/create well out of the pocket? Or is he more of a smart, accurate, get the ball to the open/right playmakers quickly type of guy?

I have seen him play.....very good passer and athlete. i've heard he has offers from SDSU, USD, NDSU, and UND along with several DII offers. Minnesota has been down to watch him at team camp.
Well the story on Austin Sumner is he is one hell of a quarterback. I know the kid very well. He has one of the strongest arms I have ever seen. He has the height at 6"5 and now weighs 225. He runs around a 4.7 forty. There has been many story's on him throughout sd but not much national. I dont know the whole process but the kid has been chosen as a finalist for the army bowl in January and yet is not on rivals or scout. He has been to Wisconsin, Iowa. He has received numerous attention from the big ten and big twelve. Not a biased person but this kid has the smarts and ability to throw the ball 70+. He will be the real deal.
Normally, I would favor offering only one QB per recruiting class (unless the intention was to move one to another position). However, with Barnett dealing with an injury his senior season (apparently a hip problem), I could see offering a second QB.
I have talked to two high school coaches in SD, (whose opinions I trust), who say that Sumner is as good a high school passer as they have seen. Both are former college FB players. Whether Sumner fits Coach Herman's criteria, I wouldn't know. I do trust that Austin Sumner is getting a good evaluation by staff.

I have watched Austin Sumner play all year. He is about 6'5" and weighs 230ish. He has broken all of Josh Huepels (Sp???) records. I have said it numerous times on this board that he is a player that ISU needs to notice. I would take him over Tom Farniok anyday. He currently has offers from SDSU, NDSU, USD, UND, etc. A bunch of D1-AA schools or lower. I've heard from reliable sources at SDSU that Wisconsin and Iowa State have told him to walk on. I wish he would walk on because he reminds me of the Cincinnati quarterback (Pike). He is not athletic enough to play TE or DE. I bet he runs a 4.8, so he has decent mobility but not great. He has one cannon of an arm though. My guess, he ends up at South Dakota State because they are probably recruiting him the hardest and his good budy Chase Douglas is a freshman DE at SDSU.
If he is as good as you say, they wont need to. If he comes on board and isn't going to see the field at QB (Tiller, Barnett...), they should switch him.
I would love to see him walk on if he doesn't get an offer.

I'll start by saying that I really admire SDSU's football program. But Austin Sumner should probably look somewhere else. SDSU is so loaded with young, high quality QB's, he would have to be way above exceptional to separate himself from that pack !

I heard that he challanged Chuck Norris to a fight, but Norris didn't want any piece of him.

My opinion on Austin is that he would be great at ISU or anywhere he goes. He has all the athletic abilities you want in a QB, but what I think sets him apart is his passion for the game and his work ethic to get better. I remember when he was just a soph and he has improved so much since then. Late bloomer maybe, but I don't know how you could have every passing record in your state and be a late bloomer. I've wrote coach Herman and Rhodes on him so they should know about him and from what I've been told he camped at ISU and ever since they've been in contact with him. Some people in Brandon told me that he does have an ISU offer, but that was just "town talk." I've been told also on here that he does not, so who knows. Would really like to see him in a Cyclone uniform though and think we would do great things here. Think Sage Rosenfels.
