Interesting. Either they want to get QBs in who can run or they feel they sit very good with a couple other QBs who they feel are better. My guess is the latter.

isu wouldn't take him so he's goin to sdsu. i could also see him in the nfl someday he's that damn good he also broke 14 school records and 8 state passing records with a high school career of 88 td passes which is the state record in south dakota and 7,612 career yds this website should give u more info Sports : BV standout Sumner signs with State - Capital Journal Pierre, SD newspaper since 1881

Yeah, well if you spread it five wide, you'd better have numbers like that playing against the D you typically see in SD.

Normally, I would favor offering only one QB per recruiting class (unless the intention was to move one to another position). However, with Barnett dealing with an injury his senior season (apparently a hip problem), I could see offering a second QB.
I have talked to two high school coaches in SD, (whose opinions I trust), who say that Sumner is as good a high school passer as they have seen. Both are former college FB players. Whether Sumner fits Coach Herman's criteria, I wouldn't know. I do trust that Austin Sumner is getting a good evaluation by staff.

I agree that we should sign a QB in every recruiting class unless you are already solid at the position. However, if you are making that decision based on Barnett's injury in high school, you have to know what Herman knows. Barnett had a hip-flexor injury (common in athletes of his caliber) that should have sidelined him for 3 weeks. However, he did not miss a snap and he lead his team to a 6-0 record during that "injury" timeframe. Herman knows what he has in Barnett (smart, tough, hardworking leader) so he will make the right decision on how many QB's he needs in the 2011 class.

A QB at ISU named Austin? Never gonna happen. That's about as likely as us getting a receiver named Darius.
