Post game thoughts

Notice how we made our run while Garrett was sitting on the bench? As soon as he came back in, our momentum stopped and KU ran away with the game. Gmac should seriously consider giving Boozer and/or Buckley more of Garrett's minutes.

We are far too reliant on the outside shot in our offensive sets...which leads to lower shooting percentages.

Great example is Staiger being guarded by Morningstar, who looks to be several inches shorter. Do we make KU pay for that mis-match by posting Lucca down low or having him go to the basket? No. Give me a break...

I think I'd run practices like this the rest of the year:
Brackins...play Wii, read the paper, do homework...whatever you need to do.
Garrett...play 1-on-1 with Lee and try to finish at the hoop and not get your pocket picked.
Everybody else...shoot from the minute you step in the gym until the minute you leave.
Defense...unfortunately, no time to spend on defense when we only have one player who can consistently score.

-The guys fought hard today and I was proud of their effort as a whole.

-Brackins had an amazing performance on a national stage - very proud of him and glad to see the confidence & fire in his game. Flat out solid.

-I honestly think we have the players to support Craig. It just feels like the rest of the team is lacking confidence - if they keep working hard and stay positive, confidence will come. It's much harder to knock down shots without confidence and anybody who's ever played the game knows that.

-Hamilton is going to be great. Not an outstanding performance today, but I didn't see him back down from anyone and he's only a true freshman.

-I have a lot of respect for Cam Lee - he did what was asked of him today without hesitation and I love seeing a team guy like that. It's not an easy thing to do in that situation.

-I was a little disappointed with the crowd right after halftime when KU started making another run - it seemed as though everybody was just sitting on their hands and saying "oh - here we go again," but maybe that was just my impression b/c I wasn't there. I would've liked to see the crowd try to pick up the team a little more around the 16:00 minute mark. Hopefully this was just a misconception on my part.

-We played some pretty darn good man-2-man D at times with good help/switching, but KU shot the ball very well today.

Now we need to move on and go get Colorado on Tuesday - GO CYCLONES!

num1 won't be satisfied until he has Mac's head on a pike on his living room wall.

I know, but I wont be satisfied until Mac proves him wrong. I almost wonder what he will complain about next.

I love lucca as much as the next guy but is it me or does he look like a baby calf trying to walk when he drives to the basket ....arms legs ball all just falling over himself

is this because of the knee injury earlier in the year or just not his game?

seems like he cant create alot with the ball in his hands

but an open shot off a screen is right up his alley

i think one our big problems is and ppl are prolly gonna hate me for saying this but we are playing 3 walk on guys that wouldnt play at any other big 12 school. petey, haluska, and tompson are not good big 12 players...MVC players yes...not big 12! i'm tired of watching these guys play, love there hustle and heart but that gets us no where.

I don't hate you for, in fact I love you for it (in a very heterosexual, fist bumpin', beer drinkin' kinda way)! I love those guys for helping out the team and they are good ROLE players but Peterson should be a guy we bring off the bench when we need so calm the team down, Thompson comes in when someone gets in serious foul trouble and we need 5 minutes from a big guy, and (I am sorry for this but...) I honestly don't think Sean should see anything but mop up duty.

I like these guys and will cheer from them VERY loudly on senior day but we need better overall players in order to win in the Big 12.

When we don't play tough defense it's easy to shoot 50.8%

Do you think that ISU is playing division one opponents with division two talent...Brackins is the only player on the team that is big 12 conference caliber....

The rest of this team...FORGETABOUTIT!!!!!

Next stop Colorado....Next Loss Colorado!!!!

I dunno, I saw some good defense. Their offense is just better.

Sorry to tell you but we RARELY finish the possession on defense...we can play decent defense for a short period but typically not for the entire possession...we almost always have a breakdown that leads to an easy open basket.

Since you know the outcome already of future games, you will be doing something else that day right? We wont be seeing you on here criticizing because we wont need to. We have it all right here in this post.

Just got back from the game. It looked like Staiger's leg was hurting him after he went down hard in the first half. I would say it probably affected his maneuverability more than he would have liked.

I saw a few of those breakdowns but overall it wasnt awful. Our shooting was my biggest concern.

Actually, I prefer all the non-stop excuse making and mindless chatter that tells me "the program is heading in the right direction"!:jimlad:

Im not making excuses. I know where we are failing, but I just dont see it resting so much on McDs shoulders as much as some. I AM anxious to see what Colvin will do and some other recruits coming in. My expectations aren't absurd, but I do think they will make a difference.

Interesting how this seems to be said after nearly all of our games..."our opponent shot the lights out"...that is a hallmark of poor defense. We can play decent defense for a few seconds but we rarely can sustain solid defense for an entire possession...inevitably there is a breakdown somewhere which often leads to easy wide open shots.

KU is a good but not great team this year and this game was really never in question at all.

Self's gameplan was clearly to let Brackins get his and try to shut everyone else down...it worked pretty well.

We are far too reliant on the outside shot in our offensive sets...which leads to lower shooting percentages.

Brackins was outstanding today...very disappointed they didn't leave him in to try to get 2 more to set the Big 12 single game scoring mark.

Actually, we have a pretty good shot percentage allowed in the Big 12.
