Parked across the street by Jack Trice. Was out of that lot in less than 5 minutes and it was only about a 2 minute extra walk.
I parked across the street from the stadium. Out instantly. It’s maybe 5 more minute walk in the cold but well worth it

Whoever is in charge of drawing up the traffic plan after both FB and BB is not good. And the PD does not do much to help.

I have been to games all over and after games there is always a ton of PD directing traffic for miles around. They have a set plan that each exit sends traffic to a different direction out of town. You usually know ahead of time wich parking exit goes which way etc then every corner for many many blocks has set plan with cops directing traffic.

At ISU they funnel everyone to university, and force you to go to University it seams at every corner. Then there is only someone directing traffic at the parking exit and the stop lights on University, if even that. It is a terrible plan. Nothing moves.

People leaving the west side of parking lots should be forced to go west, for many blocks, any time you get on Beech you should only be able to go west at Lincoln or Mortensen. (funny though I see people trying to get in line on Mortensen by making uturn when heading west, instead of just going to Dakota which with the traffic would be way faster.)

Then people East of University should not be allowed to go to University, They should be forced to go east. Center drive should only be allowed to go North, Jack Trice way only allowed to go South. As they go noth those east of Hilton should be required to go east and those west should be required to go west.
And so on.

Every Exit out of parking should be designated. That should be clearly broadcast to fans through game day policy and parking maps etc. So you get in the line of the way you want to go. And understand getting on 30 at a different ramp than University is not only possible but many times much faster. And there should be people directing traffic instead of relying on stop lights for many blocks surrounding parking.

Going to Dayton to go west, or going to Dakota to go East is better most times than trying to get on at University.

Sounds great in theory. Now go find all the people you would need to enforce this plan. I'm sure there will be a LONG line of people wanting to stand outside when it's zero.

Also, people eff this up. They refuse to backtrack and will do whatever they want because they take University to 30 to go west and they don't care who gets in their way!

Must have got out as soon as the game was over. I had to wait on a kid to use the bathroom before I walked to my car there and it was a **** show getting out. Went no where for over 20 minutes and then turned around and headed toward the entrance near the athletic facilities and got out faster. Bet it took over 40 minutes before I finally got to 30.

Part of the problem seem that the Best parking attendants don't efficiently move traffic out and in the right directions that march up with how the PD are running the traffic lights. I watched the traffic on JT Way headed East hardly move for long stretches of time and then when it did they Best folks weren't funneling traffic out of the lots well while that light was green so it just continued to back up worse. Need to find a way like they do with SE 16th during FB where they funnel everything consistently certain ways so don't have crossing traffic from someone trying to go against the flow.

Took us 25min to get out, all this money redoing lots why didn't they spend a little more to have exits straight to University? Our lot was still probably half full when we made it out.
Where are you at?

We park in D4 and it has been a breeze getting out all year. Today it took us less than 5 minutes to leave the lots. We were meeting friends who park in the C lots and they were 20-25 minutes behind us.

D4 is a donor lot right? I'm a non-donor peon so I either park in the A lots which also have been a **** show to get out of, the 85E lot by Jack Trice earlier this year was OK to get out of but today was terrible. G6 is a bit of a walk but still seems to be the easiest to get out of if you are not in a donor lot.

Public parking will be worse on games such as these when the students are gone bc the seats are packed with jr cyclone club families that don't have passes

You know we have made it as a basketball program when the majority of the bitc**** on the forums after a game is how long it takes to get out of the parking lot. I love it. We have arrived.
I don’t know. That starting lineup music thread is pretty big. I guess the rot is setting in…..

Wouldn't be surprised if there's a limit to how many entrances they can have based on the roadway being 45 mph.
Leave them closed when no game, then shut the street down in that direction from Lincoln Way for 30min post game. Sorry Ames people, you live in a college town, find another route for that short time.

You dont need people. They just need barricades. Or use their cars to block the roads. That way they can use both lanes of traffic to exit people. There are way too many people trying to zipper into a single lane when everything should be double.

You have obviously never done traffic control to understand how completely unrealistic that plan is. You absolutely cannot just toss barricades everywhere because there's an event in the Iowa State Center. Barricades prevent movement of traffic with exception of the intended path. Do you really think the people who live in Ames are going to be cool with their neighborhoods being barricaded off just because of a MBB game? Do you think Ames Emergency services are just going to sign up for access being shut off to places they may need to respond?

In the grand scheme of things mildly inconveniencing people at an entertainment event is low on the list of things Ames is going to worry about. The manpower and cost of implementing something like that suggested plan is enormous. It's one thing for football when law enforcement from all over Central Iowa is providing support. Basketball is a whole different animal.
