OU vs WVU cancelled - officially

How convenient for OU!

WVU getting back at us for leaving our starters in longer than their fans thought we should?

I hope we don't get a lot of cases pop up in yesterday's test or the Friday test from playing WVU last week.

We need to play the CCG to not back into anything, and the conference needs the money from playing the game.

The results of this week's tests are a pretty big deal for us, for sure. However, even if the game doesn't happen, we won't have backed into anything. We are the only 8-1 team in the Big XII.

If the game doesn't happen, we can expect to hear a bunch of complaining if we finish ranked higher than a few G5 teams, but we'll have still played a tougher schedule with more road games.

I don’t think we will make it to conference championship weekend, Iowa State will be Big 12 Champs! Way too many Covid issues for many programs it sounds like.

I can just hear the spin coming out of Iowa $hitty right now.

Look, I know this isn't how these things are figured out, but this cements the fact that I will forever consider us the regular season champions. We had the best record, played the most games, beat the 2nd place team, etc.

The winner of the game will obviously be the official champion, but we will be the true champion.

Iowa State is the Big12 Conference Champ for the 2020 season. We had the best regular season record.

If KU can go around saying they have won the Big 12 thirteen (or whatever the number is) and print T-shirts promoting that, then ISU should be able to claim we are Big12 champs for this year as well!

I know it seems far-fetched now but had the following happened last weekend the Cyclones would not be in the Big 12 Championship game:

1) West Va beats Iowa State (6.5pt spread)
2) Kansas St beats Texas (7pt spread)
3) Okie St beats TCU (2.5pt spread)

The 99% thing came from the fact that computer said Kansas needed to beat Texas (which obviously wasn't going to happen). BUT, it didn't compute the fact that this KU/Texas game was bound to get COVID-Canceled and that result is the same as a KU win per the math.

Glad we don't have to worry about it but it could have happened.

On to Dallas....

This will be the 4th game this year where Iowa State's opponent had their game for the prior weekend canceled or postponed. Oklahoma State, Texas, West Virginia, and now Oklahoma for the CCG all had an unscheduled off week to rest and prepare for the Cyclones.
And KSU.
ISU went 3-1 in those games though, so maybe its a good thing lol.

You're double counting, there are 2 teams in each game.
10 teams playing each other = 5 games a week
5 games x 9 weeks = 45

You're right. Please forgive my double counting. My point is still the same.

I think we all remember my concerns about that very thing.

Of course those concerns were still overblown because like 3 things happened in a row to make sure that didnt happen. Plus OSU could still lose to Baylor.

Yes, clearly our opponents having more time to prepare while we've been busy game planning or turning around on short rest (ala Texas game) has been unfair but unavoidable. But THIS time, both ISU and OU will be off so the tables are pretty well even. I think this honestly helps us more than OU since we're coming off an impressive set of dominating wins and have plenty of tape on OU where they've struggled a bit lately.

I’m nothing if not rational ;)

But it would have sucked if it had come down to a worthless game that I was sure would be cancelled (and it was!).

This. Each time we won the B12 Championship tournament in KC in basketball we still weren't considered the B12 Champs; just the Tournament Champs. So we are the B12 champs, and we hope to be the CCG champs too.
