OT - Cutting Cable

OK, here's what I did.
I switched internet from CL to Mediacom last year. I had a line trenched for free from the box in the back easement to the house. Then I told them to hook that up to my main coax distribution box. Internet worked great from their tests.
As soon as they left, I removed the dish and put up a Yagi antenna. I hooked that up to the old directv coax. I then swapped the lines at the distribution box and have great antenna TV throughout the house.
Then I drilled a small hole thru my rim joist and ran a coax line to the center of my basement, attached my modem and router, and hooked it up to that Mediacom buried line.

Perfect setup for me.

I wanted to use the pole where my DTV dish was mounted but unfortunately it only sits about 6 feet off the ground and is on the south side of my house (towers are all north/nw). I just couldn't get a good enough signal. I was able to mount mine in the attic and come down through our bedroom wall where I could tap into the DTV cabling that was previously installed. Other than getting covered in insulation it actually worked out pretty dang slick.

So would you recommend something like this to pull in the low VHF?
https://www.channelmaster.com/Digital_HDTV_Outdoor_TV_Antenna_p/cm-3016.htm

In theory, yes. This is the traditional VHF/UHF design that has been around for years. I have the old AntennaCraft/Radio Shack version of this up at my house.

The issue with this particular ChannelMaster antenna might be design / build quality. There are some not-so-kind reviews out there, but others report that it works fine.

Ok, another problem with cutting cable. So I bought Sling again even though they made it difficult. And have the Blue package which gets FS1. This year they are now blacking out a bunch of programs on FS1 and I can't watch the Ohio - Purdue game. WTF. I paid for the channel but still can't watch.

Just switch to PS Vue

Fox Sports asked asked all the cable / satellite/OTT providers for an increased fee due to the BIG football rights fees that just kicked in. Sling TV was the only one to say no. 10 or so BIG football games on FS1 will be blacked out this year on Sling TV.

Does anybody with PSVue have the game from today in the 'My Shows'? For some reason I don't have it even though we have most all others recorded because they are under "College Football".

A buddy is switching to Hulu Live, and I'm going to let him be the guinea pig before I make that move.

It's $40 per month and includes all the ESPN and Fox/FS1 families. Everything ISU plays on save Cyclones.TV

I think I'm gonna do the free trial this weekend to be able to see the Akron game. One of few providers that has the CBS Sports Network.

FYI - I switched from DirectTV to Mediacom several years ago. Then dropped Mediacom TV and just kept internet and now use PS Vue. But, I plugged my coax into my TV after removing the MC box and scanned for channels. I get all local channels still two years later. Not sure if that works for everyone but my brother in law just 'cut the cable' and is doing the same thing.

Make sure you guys aren't relying on Roku for this weekend. Nearly anything else will work, but if you only have Rokus, you're going to have a bad time.

https://techcrunch.com/2017/09/12/the-new-apple-tv-gets-a-4k-upgrade/

FYI.... Apple just made an announcement for the release of their new 4K Apple TV that will be launched September 22nd. Depending on storage size you want, it will run $179 - $199. Sure, this is pretty spendy, and sure, Apple is usually a bit behind the curve as compared to Roku on adopting some of the new technology like UHD 4K, as well as offering certain popular apps. However, I still love my Apple TVs from a user interface standpoint, which makes them tough to beat in my mind and worth the extra cost. Therefore, I'll be picking one or two of these up eventually and I've already got a one 3rd and one 4th generation one. What I'll likely do is just wait until black Friday and grab up the best deal offered during that time for one.

I've got Roku and PSVue so I'm trying to figure out what to do this weekend too. (May end up at a friend's place or a bar)

Here are the options I'm looking at:

Sign up for free HuluTV trial (or Youtube TV), stream via laptop connected to TV.

Roku has a CBS Sports channel, but I don't know if this has live TV. If it does, I may be able to use the HuluTV free trial to stream on Roku. Might test this out tonight.

I found another tv service, FuboTV, that carries CBSSN. They also offer a 1 week free trial. Roku has a beta app so no telling how well, or if it will work.
