NFL: Offseason Thread

Vikes fans would you rather not re-sign any of your 3 current QB's and go after Cousins instead?

Bittersweet as a Chiefs fan. I liked Alex a lot, really stabilized the QB position for the Chiefs. Won a lot of games, but I think we saw the ceiling he could get to. For Alex it was always the throws he wouldn't attempt that was so frustrating.

Mahomes has looked good. Worth a shot.

True and there will be good available backup options.

Alex said this morning on Dan Patrick he’s been in the league 13 years. Crazy it’s beem that long already.

Yep. Might take a step back for a year or two but had to do it.

I was hoping for Cousins, until Alex Smith’s deal was announced. The rate for a free agent QB is damn near $30 mil per year and the Vikings would spend at least $22 mil to use the franchise tag on Keenum or Bridgewater. They may as well take a shot at Brees and offer him a 2-year deal and guarantee it all.

Chiefs received Washington’s 3rd round pick in this years NFL draft and also CB Kendall Fuller (55 tackles & 4 ints this season) as compensation for the Smith trade.

What's going on with Josh McDaniels? He pretty clearly is angling for the Patriots head coaching job. Does he know something about Bill Belichick? Crazy.

As for the Colts... Not much to do but point and laugh. Feel bad for Andrew Luck, being tied to that organization.

"This is going to be a tough pill for Irsay to swallow"

Best take I've heard so far.

He must know something, because he just burned every other bridge in the league.

It sounds like the Colts knew this might be coming because they already have three candidates for the newly open job. If I had to guess I'd say probably Kris Richard and Dave Toub and a mystery candidate - maybe Frank Reich. Toub would make the most sense because he's a little older and he's been passed over several times the last few years and so even as messy as this spot is it might his last best chance. The Colts are retaining the coordinators and coaches that McDaniels recruited, so the new guy will be signing on to work with a staff he didn't personally pick. Plus Toub has ties to Ballard from their time working together in KC. We'll see what happens. Sucks for the Colts but I think McDaniels is the one who looks bad here. I admit I'm biased as a Colts fan, but I think it's a really immature move on his part and shows a total lack of respect to a lot of people.

Colts are terribly run but this is a blessing. As a fan of team that was coached by McDaniels the colts caught a major break.

In the wake of the McDaniels fiasco the Colts have confirmed interviews with Frank Reich, Dan Campbell, and Leslie Frazier. Pretty uninspiring group. I guess I like Reich with his playing history and reputation as an offense minded guy. Not crazy at all about the other two, especially Frazier. Nice guy but he had his chance in Minnesota.
