NFL: Offseason Thread

But didn’t the Chiefs get a CB from Washington with the Alex Smith trade? It’s not a 1-for-1 in terms of value, but it seems like they actually made some prudent moves this offseason, which is rare for that franchise.

The Chiefs got fleeced for Marcus Peters...as a Broncos fan I enjoyed that.

If KC was tired of his attitude and bound and determined to move on from him then I can't blame them. In their defense, if this is the best offer they could get for him then I feel like that says more about him than it does the Chiefs. It's been reported that the Chiefs reached out to the Browns and Colts but both teams passed. All pro talent but some major immaturity issues.

I think I'd be for this change. Hate the ticky-tack PI calls that cost defensive teams like 30+ yards

Yeah, but then what about when a defensive back knows he's beat and just tackles the guy to save the TD? It's better to give up fifteen yards on a penalty instead of a TD or long gain.

What about as an alternative making PI a reviewable play without increasing the number of available challenges for coaches?

Bring on Cousins!

OK, but if they don't increase the number of available coach's challenges I don't see why that stat matters. The games are getting stopped for reviews anyway. This would just be another play available for coaches to challenge. Doesn't mean they automatically would.

My bad, I read your post wrong - I thought you were insinuating that the booth review every (or at least egregious) PI call. You meant allow coaches to challenge a PI penalty on the field - yes, that makes sense.

Yeah, sorry if I was unclear. My proposal would be to make PI calls reviewable without increasing the coach's challenges. So a coach would have the ability to throw the red flag on a PI call but it would be just like any other thing that's reviewable now - you have X number of challenges so you better be sure there's a good chance at winning it.

In theory only the most egregious PI or missed PI calls would get challenged. Most of those 277 calls you mentioned are very much 50/50 and could easily go either way.

Rumors heating up the Cousins is heading to Minnesota. Makes sense. Really his only option if he wants a chance at a super bowl

The only catch is that going to Minnesota means he'll probably be leaving a little on the table. The Vikes can't match what a couple other teams can offer in terms of money.

I do agree that Minnesota is a ready made contender. He could be the missing piece. If he wants to win and win right away they are far and away the most logical choice.

I'd take a minor pay cut to play for Minnesota over the god damn Jets.

Vikings can pay him 26-28 million a year. Vikings will offer a competitive contract and an opportunity to play for a hell of a team.

They can. Doesn't mean they will. I'm not convinced the Vikes are going to approach the 30 mil/year mark that some other suitors might. They have to worry about keeping their core together, and there are some key defenders whose contracts expire in the next year or two.

It only works if the Vikes are truly interested in Cousins and he's willing to take a bit of a discount to play for a winner. No guarantees on either front.

We will see. All the smoke points to Minnesota as of now.

Minnesota is closer to home for him. Get to play inside a beautiful stadium where weather won't be a problem half of the games. Play for a loaded team. The choice is obvious in my opinion.

You wouldn't be the one being potentially asked to give a team a 4-6 million dollar discount. All your points are good. If he's only concerned with winning then the Vikes are the logical choice (assuming they want him, which isn't a sure thing).

But you're ignoring the business side. He has a right to max out his earnings potential. I don't care how much he's made off the franchise tag - if the Vikes came in at $26 mil/year and the Broncos or Cardinals or Jets or someone else came in at 30 or more, then it's anything but an easy decision.

Not only that, but as the top QB in free agency if he takes less then he resets the market for every other QB going forward. There's more to it than just picking the best team.

We'll see how it shakes out. Maybe the Vikings will break the bank for Cousins, but I'm not convinced they will.
