Arctic is right. It's true

There can be a lot of nuance to disappointment, and being disappointed in the results thus far does not necessarily mean that he is a disappointment. If a coach is openly telling people the latter, then I don't want that coach on our staff.

I don't think it's bad for saying a player just isn't getting it or putting in the work.

You would have wanted the entire old staff fired for what they said about Percy lol

Somebody said Williams mentioned him being only 80% on a pod. Not sure how I missed that. I hope like heck for him that he can get back to 100% but sounds like he has the ability even at that level.

That was me.

Something like...

"...closer to 80% than to 100% right now. He will benefit from the summer with a college-level rehab, S&C, and related programs, but he might only hit his stride next year."

Some posters are being fair in saying he's yet to show anything outstanding and has yet to prove he's ready to play significant minutes, which is true. His freshman season he was very raw and I think there was some things he did well to end the year. Last year he did not take that step that we thought he would, but he also was playing behind some talented wing players which probably hurt his confidence. Tough to take minutes away from NWB, Shayok, and Halliburton. This is the year he has to prove himself. Playing time is open for the taking at that position and he'll have the opportunity to take it if he's willing to get better in certain areas.

And that's certainly fair, and in your post you show much more nuance than the posters who have openly declared, while admitting they didn't even watch the CCL game that is the whole subject of this thread, that he will won't improve and doesn't belong in the rotation, etc, etc. Essentially they've already made up their minds that he's a waste of a scholarship. That's complete BS IMO.

I like how many unique body types we have on the team. If Tre Jackson can get up to speed on the defensive concepts he will play. As usual, everyone will be be surprised when guys like Leech and Grill play a lot less than they think they will. If Conditt can get to the point where Prohm can’t keep him out of the starting 5 we will be sitting pretty to make the tourney. Huge defensive X factor with his size. Changes everything.

There hasn't been a ton of discussion about it, but I thought the general consensus was that Jackson is the most likely to get early minutes. I'm expecting nothing from Leech just because he's such a wild card. I think Grill could contribute if he shoots well, but Jackson has been steadily building hype since his commitment.

Zion looks a lot bigger than last year..height and weight...and that is good. Have to remember that Zion just started to play competitive b-ball a few years ago really. He has a lot of growth yet but his potential is def there.. I’d like to see Zion in a role of playing large wing or small PF spot.. Him putting on weight and looking 6’7ish to me I love and think he will def be one first off bench spelling MJ or SY..

Getting Tre and Bolton alleviated my concern about our backcourt...both those kids can shoot..especially Tre..kids has wicked quick release and is oozing with confidence when he shoots.. but both have good handles and really quick and can take it too rim as well....Check and check.

Nixon wearing brace on his wrist..maybe precautionary idk...To me he seems like more of a scorer...kind of a all around type guard who can defend and won’t make a ton of mistakes...just seems like that type.

Leech..whoa. Idk how much he will play this year but he looks like a perfect 3 who is still growing but he’s 6’6 right now with long arms who can flat out stroke it. Offensively the kid is super skilled but it’s the other end that will determine how much he plays.

Like others have said it’s Cap City league so it’s glorified pick up ball vs other solid guys.. but it gives one a view of who appears talented and who doesn’t.

This is the type of things people attending the CCL I appreciate posters sharing.
How players skills and bodies have improved or plateued and how it may translate to the team during the year in regards to minutes/roles rather than individuals box score scoring.

Zion being healthy and looking bigger leading to confidence and earning the starting SF would be huge for next years team. I really think his injuries last year set him back from contributing as a freshman, he may be ready this year.

well, he was a 4 star and got offered by Kansas for a reason. It's because he is pretty darn good.

Yeah there are definitely some blunt opinions out there. I think it's unfair to make a blanket statement and call him bad or trash. He's not either of those things. He's at best an average player who has been raw and has the potential to be good. We shouldn't write him off just yet. When Steve Prohm brought up Lewis, he even stated that when he was at Murray State and lost a couple of players to the NBA / Graduation, he had a guy who basically stepped into a role and was an all-conference player and conference tournament MVP. So Prohm thinks Lewis could possibly do similar things. If that happens, that would be awesome. If that doesn't happen, we shouldn't talk down a player. Sometimes they don't pan out, and that's why continuing to recruit at a high level and have options as a coach is highly important.

IF Bolton eligible, then there's a lot of minutes from TH, Nixon, and Bolton.

And a ton of minutes for Solo, Conditt, and Jake.

Excited we have so much young talent from Leech, Zion, Tre, Lewis etc to see who can step up and be the 1-2 guys that make the rest of the rotation.

Will be interesting to see if Prohm sticks with the 1 big line up or goes with 2.

One thing I specifically noted about Zion was how high he jumped on his jump shot. I didn't remember him doing that before but I honestly didn't pay attention.

It certainly made it hard for a defender to contest the shot. He had a lot of confidence in his ball-handling as well.

Wasn’t Zion battling some injuries as well last year?

Here's last years CapCity thread for hot summer takes.

https://cyclonefanatic.com/forum/threads/2018-cap-city-league.238718/

My main takeaway from last season's thread is Jacobson greatly exceeded expectations. Probably more so than Shayok honestly...

Jacobson is a career 40% shooter, including 18% and 43% from 2 and averaged about 5 points/game. He's not a shooter. He averaged almost 5 rebounds a game and seems like a good team guy. Can come in and bang around when Solo or Lard need a break. That's what we're getting. Anyone expecting much more from a productivity standpoint is going to be disappointed.

It also seems like Conditt and Haliburton were the surprises of the CCL last year. I'll be curious to see how Leech does the rest of the summer but I feel most confident in picking Tre Jackson as the guy who impresses for the duration of the CCL.

From a purely offensive perspective, I was most impressed with Leech’s 49 points, Jackson’s 47 points and Lewis’s 42 point effort. Leech didn’t seem to have a significant arc on his 3 point shots, but it seemed he was unstoppable from beyond the arc. Jackson seemed shorter than expected, but I was impressed with his play. Lewis looked like one of the most complete players on the court and I have high expectations for him this year!

I just had to LOL when you put Leech and Grill on a level. Everyone knows that the latter is a project, with high long term potential as he polishes his skills. That is decidedly not the case with Leech.

I don't get the TL bashing. He just scored 42 points. Maybe his defense was bad last year, so were Wiggs and Lard and they're going pro. Seems like his mid range game is improving - that might be where we need him anyway - pick and roll guy. If we're moving the 3 point line back, our outside percentages would decrease; I wonder if 3's will still be our modus operendi.
