He kind of did. He didn't say anything negative about the effort.

Again, I think Prohm trying to point out to the idiots in our fanbase that the season hasn't been a disaster is about sticking up for his players. He doesn't want them to feel like he thinks they are failures.

Fair enough. I think that's a reasonable take on his comments. I didn't see it that way. It sounded to me like making excuses for the losing streak.

Where we finished is really all that matters.

And half the p5 makes the tournament these days. Merely making it as a p5 team at a school that is historically more of a basketball school than a football school should be the expectation, not the definition of success.

I'm not at the point of saying fire Prohm this year. He deserves another. But being satisfied with middling big 12 finishes and simply making the tournament reminds me of Campbell on the football side: "6-6 programs are ********". We should expect better than mediocrity. Setting sights lower is how you ensure you slide backward.
Well said.

Said this after one of the previous losses. All things considered, it’s been a good year. With that said this team has not reached their potential. Far from it in my opinion. Home vs ku, at ole miss, and maybe at KSU we’re closest we got to maxing out. A good coach gets more out of their players than their talent level.

I’d love to hear from Prohm supporters what you feel he does in an above average way other than recruit and be a high character guy. It’s certainly not coaching or managing a team.

I think recruiting and being a high character guy is very important. How about you tell me what’s wrong with those two things.

So you want a Matt Campbell type for
basketball?

I want you to outline your expectations rather than be a *****.
I don't know how I am being a ****. Conversation was that Prohm isn't going to take Iowa State to any new heights and I think it is worth finding a personality/coach that can, similar to what Campbell has done with a football program that has historically been one of the worst in college football. Why is that met with such animosity?

Prohm had a big boost those first 2-years. 4 NBA players & an elite Euro player was a major gift that dropped on his lap.
Okay? So even this year is more than what McDermott ever did (who also had good players). Its just not a good comparison.

Not at all. The other poster made a comment that essentially it isn't good to start over so stick with Prohm. My objection is I don't think Prohm can get this program to compete for a big12 title or anything futher due to his limitations as a coach and then people get mad. This season has amplied his shortcomings. I am just calling it as I see it. What is wrong with that?
There's nothing wrong with having an opinion. The problem is you tying that opinion to objectivity. You don't think prohm can win us a big 12 title, fine. But holding that opinion doesn't make you objective, it makes you pessimistic. And trying to portray your opinion as the sole objective truth just makes you look like an ass.

A loss but they remembered to play BB today. Hopefully get 1 in KC, then the NCAA's where we get to play somebody new which hopefully will help.

People see what they want to see. You want to see him as making excuses because you don't like him. I want to see him as sticking up for his players.

Just ask yourself what purpose it would serve if he came out and said over the last week that he sucked, his players sucked, and the season was lost? That would for sure ensure that they wouldn't win another game and it would for sure be a disservice to his players who he obviously treats as his own. He has said multiple times this year that last year was unacceptable. Multiple times. So it seems as though he is aware of things. I suspect that when the season is over, he will also be self aware enough to realize that things went wrong this year. But I think he will continue to value his players by pointing out that that the season was far from a disaster.

Campbell hasn't ever thrown his guys under the bus.

There is nothing wrong with those two things, but if you're getting paid millions and your job comes down to wins, then you aren't living up to all of your duties. Correct?

Sure, no Fred players, no Fred unbalanced class problem, so let’s judge from this year.

  • All kinds of talent... that’s not playing to it’s potential
  • Upper division finish... was in position to be #1, 1-6 when it got serious
  • NCAA tournament 6 or 7 seed... we think, result tbd
  • Nice class coming in... we think, result tbd
A couple wins in the ncaas will really help the legacy of this season. To date it’s rather meh when you consider the potential

Regarding the Lard situation, i don’t expect Prohm to tell us everything, but I don’t think anyone believes that's why he didn’t play. I am extremely excited about Conditt’s future and he does some very good things right now but the fact is Lard would impact the game significantly more and you are hurting the other players by not playing him. I know it will probably take care of itself in offseason but I say dismiss him from team or play him significantly.

I think they are important too, but we are paying someone $2 mil a year to be a basketball coach and not a Boy Scout leader.

His timeout usage is poor, seems to have a discipline problem every year, we have no offensive or defensive identity. Doesn’t get the respect of players or officials, let alone fans. He’s stubborn and rarely makes any adjustments. I just really don’t see anything he does well as it relates to game day coaching.
