I think they are important too, but we are paying someone $2 mil a year to be a basketball coach and not a Boy Scout leader.

His timeout usage is poor, seems to have a discipline problem every year, we have no offensive or defensive identity. Doesn’t get the respect of players or officials, let alone fans. He’s stubborn and rarely makes any adjustments. I just really don’t see anything he does well as it relates to game day coaching.

I also forgot some Hoiball principles that have been forgotten of never going 2 for 1 at end of halves and stressing no long 2’s. Even understanding a situation like today that the clock keeps running at the end of 1st half under a minute after a made basket that if you take your time getting the ball in it could have given us the last shot instead of having to take a shot with 7+ secs on the clock.

So if we have no offensive identity, how do we lead the league in scoring every damn year and rank towards the top of college hoops in efficiency?

Do we run set plays? Rarely. Prohm teaches concepts like Fred did and let's the players make decisions on the fly based on what the defense gives. The statistics say it's pretty damn effective.

Offense very, very rarely loses games as it relates to Iowa State. I'm going to go out on a limb and guess most teams with 2 freshmen playing a bunch of minutes struggle defensively. The game moves WAY faster than they're used to. AAU ball is all based on offense. They're now playing 22 and 23 year old men instead if 18 year old kids against coaches getting paid millions to figure out how to exploit them. This off-season they'll likely take a huge step forward both mentally and physically.

I’ve been through al out of isu basketball seasons and you will always have those games throughout the season that are disappointing but the big difference this year is when this team dropped a couple home games (TCU & Baylor)at home when they were still in the hunt for a championship that will be hard to get over. U would think after the home KSU game it would have been lessoned learned. This team just never seemed to get any smarter and learn from their mistakes. That’s mostly coaching.

I think part of the problem was how good of a start we had. If we had the same record and the wins were more scattered, I think most people would be happy with it. We'll see how the season finishes. That will tell us how this year will be remembered. If we get a couple tourney wins, most fans are going to be very happy.

I agree, mostly. Considering how bad the team was last year(and I don't blame Prohm for that) if you had told me going into the year that ISU would be 20-11(9-9) with Wigginton, Lard, Talley, and Young all missing significant time I would have pretty pleased with those results.

That said, that doesn't fully diminish concerns due to the way the team has finished, especially as the happened when the team was close to full strength. And the losses often being so ugly have not helped matters.

I'm pretty neutral on Prohm to be honest, and have been ever since he's taken over. The ups and downs and commentary on this forum always make me think of this clip from Charlie Wilson's War:

I'm still in, "We'll see" mode.

This is exactly what I thought after the game as well. Contrast that quote by Campbell with this from Prohm in the post game presser, "I just wanted to make sure everybody understood that if you really do the research and do the math, it’s a pretty good regular season." I'm skeptical that Campbell would say something like that after an extended losing streak.

I guarantee you that if Campbell went one win and five losses to end his season he sure wouldnt be talking like csp....When you accept mediocrity that is what you will always get ....

Prohm knows that expectations are higher and is certainly disappointed with the end to the season. I don't get fans who seem to think that they want the team to win more than the coaches and players do. A disappointing end to the season doesn't mean that there wasn't anything accomplished. I think I would have taken a 20-11 season and NCAA tournament berth if you would have offered it to me before the season. Prohm simply feels like he needs to talk down fans who think that there is no hope and future and that this season was the biggest disappointment in the history of Iowa State basketball.

I have maybe a not so bold post season prediction: Lard will be asked to transfer. Unless he gets his crap together, and kills it during tournament season.

You go around disagreeing with anybody who is critical of Prohm but have no qualms about throwing the 18-22 year old student-athletes under the bus?

Did you get kicked in the head by a large farm animal when you were a kid? All I do on here is stick up for the players, the coach and the program. Almost to a fault.

Nice try though, turd.

I said this to my brother today. It was a flawed effort but we played the number 8 team down to the wire on an off day.
It was great to see them compete, but at this point that wasn’t an “off” day.

If we can replicate that flawed effort, average teams will at least have to play well to beat us.
