I think this is only second time ISU has been seeded 6th. Previous occurrence, 1997, when we beat (3) Cincinnati in second round.

That game was great. Huggins was coaching at at Cincinnati back then and he was going nuts because his all-american power forward Danny Fortson couldn't stop 6-4 Kenny Pratt.

Clemson, Texas and TCU might have gotten shafted as their numbers look better than Temple, Belmont and Minnesota, and for sure should have been in before Arizona St., Ohio St. and St. John's. I would guess those three and N. Carolina St. will be the #1 seeds in NIT.

I didn't watch much Bracketology and didn't read this entire thread (so my question might have an obvious answer), but how did NC State not make the NCAA field? They won > 20 games and were 9-9 in the ACC, had a NET ranking of 33 and nine of their eleven losses were to ranked teams (five on the road). 5 or 6 of those losses were to Duke, UNC & Virginia. I didn't see any "bad" losses other than that horrid game where they only scored 24 points...

Anybody know what sealed NC State's doom?

They played one of the weakest Noncon schedules in the nation. 352 out of 353.

Does everyone feel the NET rankings were better than RPI? I think it was a big improvement. Committee also did the right thing keeping Texas and Indiana out. Had no beef with it.

No, not really. The committee didn't really lean on NET like it everyone thought they would. In the past they only used RPI but this year they are using all available tools. It's really not an apples to apples comparison.

Saw this in an article on the interwebs

Avoid No. 6 seeds going deep into the tournament at all costs. A No. 6 seed hasn’t been to the Final Four since 1992. Last season, two No. 6 seeds were upset in the first round. The other two were dispatched in the Round of 32.

That's going to change this year.

Michigan State is 13-4 in Q1 games, won Big 10 regular season and tournament, North Carolina is 10-6, plus they beat Duke twice without Zion, so tell us all how North Carolina has a "WAY BETTER" resume.
Sure, no problem.

Stats dont lie but they dont tell the whole truth, either. Michigan State's Quadrant 1 win count is bloated by road wins at NET teams #43 Iowa, #48 Nebraska, #50 Penn State and #55 Ohio State.

Carolina has better wins win victories over #2 Gonzaga, #3 Duke twice, #11 Virginia Tech and #13 Wofford. Michigan State with 3 wins over #9 Michigan, #12 Purdue and #17 Wisconsin twice.

Carolina's worst loss was to #38 Texas. Michigan State got swept by #54 Indiana and lost to #109 Illinois.

That sums up why I feel that Carolina's resume is far more worthy of a #1 seed than Michigan State. I do feel MSU got shafted by being put in Duke's bracket simply because it is closer to home. They should be swapped with Michigan.

Team that got a cakewalk: Nobody

It’s cowardly not to make a pick, I know. But I swear that the more I look at this region, the less clarity I have. North Carolina and Kentucky are miles ahead of the rest of the Midwest field, but Kentucky won’t exactly be thrilled to have to play either Wofford (which has won 20 straight games) or Seton Hall (which beat Kentucky earlier this season) in the second round. I don’t trust Houston, I really don’t trust Kansas, and Auburn relies so heavily on 3s that the Tigers are as likely to win every game by 20 points as they are to lose by 20.

You know what? I just figured it out—no. 6 seed Iowa State definitely has the easiest draw. The Cyclones tore through the Big 12 tournament and looked completely unstoppable. Now they get Ohio State in the first round? That might as well be a bye. The Buckeyes have no chance whatsoever in that game. NONE.

I wouldn't say no chance, but I do like that match up.

I think it was some obvious hyperbole, but I think we objectively did get a good draw. Ohio State and Houston are not easy teams, but nobody is easy at this stage.

There were definitely some teams in the #11 and #3 range that I fear more than them.

UNC and UK are really good (as all the #1 and #2 seeds are this season), and KU beat us once in Lawrence, but, if we want to go far, we are going to have to get through squads like that at some point. Might as well do it in Hilton South to take our shot at them.

It is not often we are going to get the next best thing to a home game in the second weekend.

If I was to choose a match up, getting a high major team that just barely slid in would be at the top of my list. I like this match up better than almost any of the 5/12's we would have gotten. Top that with starting location, and potential KC Sweet Sixteen, and I couldn't be happier. But we have to prove it on the court, and obviously Ohio State is good enough to beat us if we don't play well.

In any given tournament KC is the best we’re ever going to get as a second weekend location, and not only were we placed in that region this year, but we were gift-wrapped Tulsa as well (the second-preferential first weekend site for us this year). If there’s a year for ISU to make a serious run in the tournament, it’s this year.

I can't get on board with OSU being some sort of shoe-in if people are feeling that way.

It will depend on which ISU team shows up but also which OSU one does and will take some breaks too.

And also, Minneapolis in the Final Four.

And also, Minneapolis in the Final Four.

I did some interesting geographical math this morning, and it turns out there’s exactly one Big 10 school closer to Minneapolis than ISU is, and it happens to be the Big 10 school located in that city. I thought Wisky might be closer, but they’re 60 miles and 90 minutes farther away.
