***Official portal tracker thread***

As of 4 pm on 12/29 ISU has 42 outgoing players, only behind Oklahoma State (44) for most in P4.
But no tampering going on here! At least that's what we're supposed to believe.

If Matt truly was telling all the players that won't be following him to PSU to stay at ISU and keep it going there.... do you think 42 players would be leaving? I don't.

But Matt Campbell is a saint and was truly trying not to let this burn to the ground!!!

Seems to me from the announcements that God told them to transfer, not Campbell. Maybe those 2 disagree. ;)

I think part of the comments aimed at Campbell and the departing players is really frustration over the current system. People have no ability to control or change the repeated punches to the gut that the portal and NIL bring on. They can’t control players they rooted for leaving en mass while the fan is left to root on the program they’ve displayed loyalty to for decades. So they lash out where they can. I’m not excusing it, but I do understand where the frustration comes from. Personally, I’m amazed those seem to have the ability to say, “oh well, Good Luck!”
I'm very pissed at Campbell, as I've stated. It's not because he made a financial / business decision. It's not because he wants to go to a top program and win a NC. That is all very rational and I totally get it. If someone offered me a job tomorrow that was 2-3x my salary and a job I kind of wanted anyway, I'd be silly not to take it.

What I'm pissed about is all the crap about being our Bill Snyder or Ferentz. All the stuff about how he was "different."

Coaches are humans and say things in the moment that may look silly in the future. I'm sure Campbell genuinely loved his time at ISU; I don't doubt that. But you can't talk for 10 years about how you want to build a legacy / longevity at a place and then bolt for another program without damaging said legacy.

It's asking far too much, but I'd be less pissed if he just came out and said "I love Iowa State, I'm grateful for what they did for my career and my family. But my dream has always been to coach at a few select schools with the opportunity to win a NC. I'm leaving to pursue that dream."

Instead he came out with "This was such a hard decision to leave a place we loved so much. I need to be closer to family, etc etc." Just come out and say the truth. Stop trying to have it both ways. You saw a chance for more money and to win a NC so you took it. Good on you, but I no longer hold you in high esteem because that directly contradicts everything you've said for the past 10 years.

I thought he truly was different. He's not. I held him in much higher regard than a lot of modern coaches. Now, he's just another one in a long list.

He's not from here. Didn't go to school here. Didn't play here. Not many coaches would've stayed with the success he had and the limitations of the program. He gave us 10 years. Turned down the Lions, USC, etc.

Matt is a good coach, but let's not act like he sacrificed his first born for ISU okay. He didn't "give" us anything. He was paid very well to do a job.

Oh. But, personal reasons. But, dream job. But, he doesn’t owe ISU anything. In fact, ISU should build him a statue. In fact, ISU is going to be ‘just fine’ or even better. Lying politicians all of them.

I think it's fair to say that in less than a month, CMC has really done some damage to his legacy at Iowa State.

Not necessarily his fault - before this NIL and Transfer Portal world, I think we'd all still feel the same. But the fact he's not giving some Penn State players the time of day so he can take Iowa State guys pretty much destroys the loyalty and culture thing he's built his name on.
Yeah...now it's
FU@&
THE
PROCESS
in Slick Matt's world...HE'S GOT TO WIN A NATTY now...no time to "develope young men"

I'm surprised he didn't want to stay to compete for the starting job.. it was right there with Carson Hansen leaving!

Some of these guys I don't get. Carson Brown, WR from Des Moines.. like what does he think his market is? I'm not trying to be snarky but i'm trying to be real. Some of this is hilarious. Carson Brown could have played a lot next year had he stayed (maybe he still will if he finds no other suitors)
Some of the guys deeper on the depth chart that you're seeing leave may have also not been wanted by the new staff. I don't want to see anyone get shade on social media for leaving, but I REALLY don't want it for these cases where they didn't have a choice (no idea if Brown left on his own or not).

Yep... Matt is a college football head coach... which means he's a sneaky used car salesman.... and as CW has said numerous times... they lie almost all the time. It's just what they are.... and what they have to be to be successful.
