***Official Olympics Discussion***

World record!!!

What's the competitive lifespan for female swimmers?
Obvious question is obvious: Can she approach Phelps at all?

She's got at least two more Olympics I would think. As for catching Phelps, she's got a chance at least in terms of total medals. I don't think we'll ever see a swimmer get that many golds though.

Natalie McCullough and Elizabeth Beisel are both in their twenties, I believe.

Missy will be 21 at Rio................I think she will be doing a similar Phelps Beijing run - heck she's already swimming in how many races here?!

That's what I'm thinking. It seems like she has at least 2 more Olympics to compete in, potentially, and maybe even 3.

ok, my bad, Beisel is only 19. She competed in 08 at 15.........which is why I thought she was a bit older! McCullough is 29, I believe and obviously faded a bit in this one, but I would agree that Missy will likely be her best in Rio and may compete at 25 too.

How does diving get a prime time slot? Just curious
.

Because it's easy for NBC to show three to four dives, then five minutes of commercials and promos of upcoming shows on NBC after the Olympics are over, come back and show three to four more dives, then run five minutes of commercials, promos of upcoming shows on NBC after the Olympics are over and then back to Bob Costas promoting the next sport coming up,then two to three dives, then five minutes of commercials, promos of more NBC shows that nobody will be watching after the Olympics are over and then having NBC run a promo of an interview on the Today show for tomorrow about a USA gold medal winner who's event is coming up five minutes after the Today show promo is aired.
The best thing for NBC is that you can substitute gymnastics, swimming and track and field in the place of diving and you have the same thing and that is why, along with the time difference, these most watched events are tape delayed for prime time.

Also, we win a lot in those three sports.

The Mexico-Senegal soccer match is pretty entertaining. It's been wide open with tons of end to end action.

Senegal just scored their 2nd goal in the last 7 minutes to tie the match 2-2.

Senegal's keeper is coming up huge in the first overtime period.

Senegal has made 2 huge blunders in overtime and handed the match to Mexico. 4-2 right now.

Like Phelps, it just depends on how long she wants to do it.

Yeah, you never know. Spitz retired after Munich at age 22, he could have come back and kicked a** again in Montreal four years later. If she wins more gold medals in Rio, she might decide to move on with her life...or keep coming back for more like Phelps did.

happy that Farah won, Rupp from U.S. gets 2nd in 10,000 M

Anyone see aleksandr shustov in the high jump? He looks like someone, I just cannot figure out who
