So how does it feel to have the last win of the season finally here

I think they can beat Colorado. But history is against them. I think that Missouri is beatable if we control tempo. I doubt we win at Kansas State.

It would be bad if we lose the last three. 3-13 in the year where you pointed to as a turnaround season casts a lot of doubt. 5-11 sucks, but it shows the slightest improvement.

More importantly for Greg and his fans it could give Pollard an out to not have to make any tough decisions. I don't think he was going to anyway, but this could give him something to support Greg publicly.

Actually, you contradict yourself. In blaming the players for the losses, as you do in this post, you are saying that they do get all the credit for the win last night.

Also, remember all of the posts about how much bad luck McDermott has had here. So that must mean that he had nothing to do with the win last night, because is was ALL good luck.

I don't believe I did contradict myself. It takes both players and coaching to win. I am sick of the incessant McD bashing when it is clear to me that the players are not holding up their end either. Coaches and players should share the accolades when they win and share the blame when they lose.

FYI - A quick survey of Mac bashing threads says there were 11.782 Mac bashing posts to every "bad luck Mac" post.

There are no "fans of Greg" here. There are just frustrated fans of Iowa State basketball.

But keep beating that strawman, it appears to be the only reason you signed up for this site.

If that is what you would have said in the post that I quoted, then I would agree that you were consistent. Since that wasn't what you said, I pointed out the contradiction in your statement.

And to say that there aren't people, even on here, still clinging to bad luck as a reason for Mac not winning tells me that you either have a hard time with reading comprehension, or that you ignore anything that doesn't fit your agenda.

In these two posts you have not blamed Mac for anything that has gone wrong with his program, in fact you tried to deflect all blame from him and place it on the players. People do that all the time, they blame the players, the fans, and bad luck.

So when he does get a win, the people on here defending Mac try to get him the credit. But they blame everything, and everyone, else for the losses. There are people that hold Mac too accountable, and look for every reason to blame him for failures. They equally as wrong.

I will ask the question that you conveniently ignored earlier in a different way....

What has Greg McDermott done to improve the state of the Iowa State basketball program? Conversely, point out some of the things that you think he has done wrong, and the mistakes he has made.

I am sure that you won't answer that question. You can't take personal classy shots when you actually have to think and defend your agenda.

I have done this repeatedly in my 4 years of posting here, including this year.

I will recap all of my opinions on the men's basketball program if you promise to stop propping up the strawman of "Greg's fans".

You know it's funny that you are so sensitive about that statement. I knew the people that did the same thing for him at UNI. But I am sure that since he moved to Ames, he no longer practices this.:biglaugh:

But you have attacked me from the beginning over this. I find that interesting. It seems that there are many others on here that feel the same way.

OH! And to those of you in CA who boo the one superfanatic we have for Iowa State MBB and WBB when she's on the videoboard, you're a bunch of ******* losers. I would LOVE to have more people who bleed cardinal and gold, and you're just ******* losers for booing one of our own for no apparent reason.

I don't know if this has been mentioned, or not in this thread, but we are actually tied for 10th in the league with a tie breaker win over Colorado. Just sayin.

Unfortunately, we still have to travel to Colorado for a game...

What would McD actually done different if he was trying to completely destroy ISU basketball?

Lose best recruit ever from Iowa who was from Ames, mom works at ISU, dad played at ISU, and is a teammate of Greg's son.

Drive off great players.

Schedule patsies to build up the W-L record, and win just enough to not get fired, so you can continue to mess things up.

Let the Valley conference teams own you.

Become the doormat of the Big12, even at home.

Have your teams play a system that can't even be described at streetball. Pick-up games at the Rec show better teamwork and organization.

I could go on, but I don't have to. With ISU's resources, almost any decent coach could do what Greg has done......er.......or not done.

Agreed. There is a definite group on here that are pure and simple fans of GMAC. They defend him at all costs and with a much higher priority then that of the ISU Basketball program. These are the ones that take every negative comment about GMAC as if it were a personal attack on them and then they go on the attack themselves while pretending to play the role of "Super Fan" of the program. Funny stuff.

I never thought they were out of it. I predict ISU will win the Big 12 tourney. You should try having some faith instead of being a negative nabob of negativism.
Is that being redundant, or a double negative? At any rate, I would LOVE them to win the tourney, and they have the talent, but I don't know that they'll have the gas. Here's to hope!

I think you are overthinking it. People like Mac and still feel he can get it done here. They are entitled to that opinion and others are entitled to disagree.

I don't think anyone is choosing Mac over the isu program.

What upsets people is when he is called names "*****" and statements that he can't coach. He's proven he can coach and be successful. For a variety of reasons he had struggled here. That does not mean he can't coach.

He has not proven that he can coach! That fact is where the Mac apologists lose their arguments. Show me one thing that shows that he can coach at the Big 12 level in the past 4 years - One. It simply is not there. He brought over a system that worked at the mid major level. This is becuase all of his players bought into it. Why did they buy into it? Because no major schools would have them. They HAD to go to a mid-major program.
I like mac and I WANT him to succeed here. He is just has too big of an ego to realize that his "system" is a TOTAL flop. He refuses to change the way he coaches games. He refuses to change his "system" becuase he feels that it is great and he is all powerful. If he does not change his ways then the record will not change either.

A good example of this is Steve Alford...

He had a very good team with Recker back a few years but really failed to do much. He hadn't magically forgotten how to coach but he did fail that year. He left and moved on and now is in charge of a top 15 program.

There were many a fan of Iowa screaming he couldn't coach. He's prove them wrong.

It wads combo of many things that caused his (and Macs problems). But in the end they both know how to coach.

The blame for the current state is not soley on his shoulders.

I love the folks who think it's a problem with a system.

Putting in a complete different system will not magically fix our problems. Flat out executing any system properly will fix things.

This is funny, again showing that you don't always understand what you read.

It isn't complicated. There are people that are against Greg McDermott being the coach of the Iowa State Men's Basketball team. They do go overboard, there is no question about that. They have developed a real resentment at all of the posts about how it's the players fault for not executing, and how it's Wayne Morgan's fault for all of his players transferring, and how it's the fans fault for having expectations (now for not being loyal enough to watch some pretty painful basketball), and finally just how Greg has been so gosh darn unlucky here at Iowa State.

The problem with your theory, and others on here who are obvious in their statements, is that you seem to think that this is personally directed at Greg McDermott. Do you honestly think that people arrived at their conclusions without watching the way Iowa State has played for the past four years? I mean the way that some present it on here it's like these people woke up one morning and said I hate Greg McDermott, and I hope he fails.

These people on here are Iowa State fans, this is a CYCLONE Fan site. They want Iowa State to win, but see several problems. One problem is that we haven't won. Another problem is that there is not a lot of hope that this will get better soon. Finally, there doesn't seem to be any coherent plan to make things better.

Then you read about what a bad job this is from people that are looking for reasons to defend Greg. Does that make them bad fans??? They sit here and tell you that Iowa State sucks (paraphrase), and to ignore the NCAA appearances and big wins. Kg stated that according to other coaches this job is career suicide. Is that being a good fan?

People have been more than patient with Greg McDermott. He has no right to complain about that. I think he is a knowledgable basketball coach, there is no question about that. But sometimes people are not good fits for situations.
