***Official NU@ISU Post Game Thread***

You are very much correct on fits for situation. 2 things you missing though:

1. Some on this board have stated since he was hires that he'll fail. Now they are taking joy in being right.

2. Any fan of a team that calls the coach deragatory names is stepping over the line in my opinion. You can disagree with his tactics or system but when you result to name calling you are going to upset people.

3. A lot of bad luck has occurred over the last 4 years that will directly affect his success here. Does blame fall squarely on him? No. Will he be the one to have to answer for it? Yes.
 
Wes Johnson situation:

Blame goes to Mac and Wes. Mac for recruiting him and Wes for bailing.

In the end it still falls on Mac but to say he had complete control if that outcome is not true.

As far as people gloating that they were right about the hire, I am sure that they would have been happy to be wrong. But some people are never happy, and the only way the feel better is to drag people down.

As far calling Greg names, it childish, but what difference does it make. He is a grown up.

And he has had bad luck, but life is full of bad breaks, you have to overcome them. And some of the bad breaks have been simply because he was vigilant over his program.

You are right about this.

The thing is I hope that whoever is in charge of the "system" here next year, actually coaches, recruits, and builds toward that system. We have had too much not being true to who you are as a coach the past couple of years. This lack of consistency has sabotaged a lot of potential growth.

It'll be Greg to the like and dislike of many.

I already like what I see out of Colvin running the show. I do hope his playing time is vastly increased next year.

You may very well be right. But if it is the case then Pollard will suffer the consequences.

Next year, Greg has no leeway. People are leaving and they won't come back until they see progress, and wins. I hate to say it like that, but it is the truth.

It doesn't mean that they are bad fans either. It means that they finally have to be shown something.

You could not be more wrong...there is a decent sized cabal of McDermott "friends and family" that post on this site...they are GM supporters first and foremost and ISU supporters only because GM is at ISU.

You must not read my "work" on this site regularly then. I was clearly mocking all of those posters who won't hold GM accountable for anything that has happened over his four anemic years in Ames. It's always something...the players have to play the game and they didn't execute, GM can't catch a break / he has so much bad luck, etc.

In these two posts you have not blamed Mac for anything that has gone wrong with his program, in fact you tried to deflect all blame from him and place it on the players. People do that all the time, they blame the players, the fans, and bad luck.

So when he does get a win, the people on here defending Mac try to get him the credit. But they blame everything, and everyone, else for the losses. There are people that hold Mac too accountable, and look for every reason to blame him for failures. They equally as wrong.

I won't be renewing next year if Gmac is back, and I'm one of several in sec. 134, rows 12-13-14. We all look forward to football, womens' bb, volleyball, and wrestling, but something has to change in mens' bb.

Yep. There has to be. Or else AD people or others close to the program, because there is no case to be made to retain McD at this point. None whatsoever. When people like me bail on the program, and people know I love ISU sports, well then something is wrong.

I also believe the part where it is a problem about the system. McD's does not work on this level. And it is not going to be very successful at this level. I bet other teams love playing ISU and how easy we are to defend and get ready for. I swear we have become like a bye week for a lot of teams.

We suck, and I am sick of it, but I am more sick of people not willing to face realty: McD has nearly finished off men's bball at ISU, and the longer he is in charge, the deeper the hole we are in gets.

I see things like this posted often...how would you characterize McD's system and why do you think it won't work at this level?

Just a question, I don't have a dog in the fight.

Why does it HAVE to be that in order to support the program and the coach, someone has to be "friends and family"?

If you are so ******* sure, name names and provide proof.

I'm standing by my stance that all of us are cyclone fans, first and foremost, until I see names and proof.

I guess that is the point. Had season tickets for 2 of McD's 4 years, and even I could not figure it out. I am not going to claim that I know everything about basketball, but I would watch each game wondering what we were trying to achieve on either end of the court.

We don't rebound well.
We don't move the ball well.
We don't shoot the ball well.
We don't shoot free throws well or get to the line much.
We don't defend well.
We sure don't develop physical strength as a team in the offseason.
We don't play as a team.

If I had to describe ISU's core competency, the one thing they really do well, I couldn't do it.

Maybe some other posters could chime in? I mean it seems that Greg's plan is to hope that we are ahead when time runs out. That is it.

Start with the record for the last four years. Less than .500. It has been consistent. We need to win three more games to beat .500 which means first one in Big 12 conference tournament.The current offensive system looks disorganized, not smooth, and dependent on a forced shot. I am not sure that is what we are teaching, but that is what the spectator sees.

If this happens, then Greg has shown the fans that he can win big games.

That means that he will at least solidify the ground which he is standing on. It will make a lot of nay sayers evaluate their opinions, and it will buy him some time.

Let's hope that happens.
