Official ISU vs SIU Edwardsville Thread

I'm starting to believe in McDermott. Granted with the team we have I don't see us above 500 in the conference but the team is getting better. Once we get some experience we could be a dangerous team in coming years.

Yep, you can see hints of things coming together. Defense...check. Valuing the ball...check.

I'd love to see what a more athletically skilled team could do with these building blocks, and I hope that Gilstrap and Colvin are a part of finding out.

We still need help in rebounding, toughness, and offense, and are going to get manhandled at times in the Big 12, but the slow build seems to be happening. It would have been faster had there not been so much turnover/turmoil in the program the last few years.

The boys are sure starting to look like a team out there. Passing up shots to get a better one, getting on the floor for loose balls, passing out of doubleteams, etc.

It stinks that we lost some games we shouldn't have lost, but I hope our recent performances are a sign of things to come.

What's the over under on how many wins this team can pull off in Big 12 play?

That's the million-dollar question for sure. I really wish our first Big 12 game was not @ Texas. I have a bad feeling we could get rocked and it will destroy any confidence we have built up. But then again, the Year of the Cyclone is still very young, so there could be some strong mojo on our side.

I do know one thing- if we can finish out the non-con on Tuesday with another dominant win and start conference respectably, hold our own @TX whallop Neb at home and play tough at Mizzou, I will be PUMPED for our game against KU at home on Saturday Jan 24th. Hilton could be rockin' that day, a Saturday afternoon game against the defending NC!

Anyways, to give my $2 answer to the $1million question, I think .500 in Big 12 would be nice...

Ever since the SDSU team tanked us, we have been a different team. Maybe they taught us to hustle more. Let's schedule them early next year also. It iwould be nice to show we learned our lesson.

The announcers got one thing right: This is how you want to see your team playing going into the conference season.

I'm not going to get too excited yet - that SIU-E team was really bad.

Fun game tonight. I didn't mind the crowd, I knew it would be poor attendance due to the opponent and the weather. I would say 2500-3000 in attendance... MAX.

Moving down from the cheap seats was a lot of fun... we were going to do it anyways, and right when we made our move they announced that everyone could do it. Ended up sitting one row back and two seats over from the guy who got to shoot the Toyota Try for Five!! That was neat! (So close!!) After thinking about it, I still don't believe they wouldn't have called the seat number of any of the "upgraded" fans, since they probably draw the number from the scanned tickets at the door to know that there is actually someone in the seat....

Two players really impressed me tonight... Hamilton and Boozer. Hamilton is going to be a Cyclone great. He is a freshman with a lot of upside! Got to love that. Boozer really looks like he's finding his role and is doing a great job on the floor.

Good experience for this team to be on the right side of a lopsided victory. Hopefully we get one more on Tuesday night, then for a real test at Texas....

I agree completely. Hamilton showed a lot of upside tonight, granted against inferior competion. Boozer has had a couple of nice games, and it was really refreshing to hear his attitude on the postgame radio show. The chemistry of this team is off the hook and could end up being a lot of fun!
