***OFFICIAL 2026 WEATHER THREAD***

Why the heck is the university closing tomorrow with a whopping inch of snow? This seems like the most overblown "blizzard" ever.
Office folk got the stay home tomorrow email, my nephew works for the University on one of the farms he got the travel safe email. LOL. Least that's what I was told.

"It isn’t bad in my back yard so people are full of ****!"

Its super weird but people may have an experience that is different than yours? Maybe it isnt about the inch in Ames but the 6 inches in Mason City the wind is blowing through Ames?

Maybe its the fact that roadways were warm enough to melt the initial precip but temperatures will be too low and the wind too strong for typical ice removal to work and roads will be slick as hell tomorrow for the morning commute?

The predictions for where I live went from trace to two inches on Thursday to 6-10" now. Not good. Not good at all.

880 is the stretch from the junction where I-80 curves southwest toward Council Bluffs straight west toward I-29. It used to be part of 680.

I’m not in that part of the state much - just knew 680.
Also, watched the video above from a multi-vehicle pileup near Walnut. Could just about see a couple of semis, a few cars and pickups through the blowing snow. Ugh.

Multiple vehicle accident at 50 mile marker on I 80, westbound at Marne exit closed. Idiots driving on gravel roads to bypass accident scene!

Time to get a fire going.
Have had mine rolling since mid afternoon.

Around the same time that our MSP friend texted us that it wasn’t bad at all up there and wouldn’t have impacted our plans.
