***OFFICIAL 2026 WEATHER THREAD***

12:30 AM wake up call to the cover blowing off our deck furniture. Also appears we lost part of a tree. Thankfully it was just far enough away that the branches scraped the siding but didn't land on the house. Wind is still absolutely ripping out there. Was a battle to fight the deck furniture cover to get it into the garage.

Saw a snowplow on I80 at 49 mile marker, first traffic I saw since yesterday. Still shut down to all other traffic, for now.

work for today was cancelled at 3:30pm yesterday. Judging by road reports for north central Iowa, correct decision.

I thought I might be able to get to work today. Not even going to try after looking at the weather/road conditions.

When are people going to figure out in weather like this, you stay at home. Its not the amount of snow in this case, its that is blowing and drifting across the roadway and you cannot see crap. Stay at home and stay safe.

Looking like my flight into Mason City might actually take off from Ohare today. I'm surprised they are letting anything out or in based on how the run ways look this morning, but I will defer to the experts

Some roads must not be to bad. A semi got from Sioux City to Bomgaars by 8:00 this morning.
169 south of Algona is ice and snow covered. Drive carefully.

35 is open around Ankeny but looks icy according to the DOT cam. My mom's eye surgeon made the drive from D.M. to FD. Be patient I'm guessing you'd be ok
How did they get on I35? Or did they take another route?

Hopefully you live on a state highway. No counties around Mason city have sent their plows out in this wind. Blizzard extended now.
