Places like Marinette, WI getting like as much as 4"/hour. A foot in 3 or 4 hours.

I saw 2-3 feet projected in the NE 1/4 of WI into the UP.

Any thoughts on when conditions will be really bad in eastern Iowa? Wife is driving back from St Louis to Marion leaving at 2:30p or so. Looks like it should be above freezing until 7 or 8p.

Got home 30 minutes ago. Rain until the boondocks and then sleet and a good amount of snow by the time you hit the dows welcome center. Crap driving until we got off in clear lake. Hwy 18 was fine.

IowaDOT is closing I35 both directions at the Ames/highway 30 exit (111) at 3 pm.
EDIT - this is north to the Minnesota border. Sorry for the omission.

Have a mini spring break trip to the Twin Cities Monday-Wednesday. Planning on leaving Ames area around noon tomorrow.

Should it be okay by then? Could possibly switch dates, but would hate to come back Thursday and miss basketball.

I went out to grab paper when the ice pellets hit and skated straight down on my ass. Slicker than **** before anything really started. School emails came through an hour or so later. No one is going anywhere the next 36 hours here.

I'm in Iowa right now and am hoping to make it up tomorrow afternoon/early evening but I'll have to see.

At least it is supposed to be warmer by Friday so this will dissolve quickly.

Story County emergency mgt has sent out a message/posted on FB of hotels, motels, etc. just off the interstate.
And ISU just emailed that the university is partially closed tomorrow.
