***OFFICIAL 2026 WEATHER THREAD***

Have had mine rolling since mid afternoon.

Around the same time that our MSP friend texted us that it wasn’t bad at all up there and wouldn’t have impacted our plans.
Unless you came home early today I'm thinking your drive home would have SUCKED.

I know its the wind that makes the event, but I feel like we've had wind and comparable snow levels and not seen the same amount of shutdown

It also seems like they've been a lot more aggressive with installing gates at on-ramps in the last year or two. I wonder if that has something to do with it. Now they can physically enforce a closure instead of just announcing it and hoping people comply.

I think raining about all day and all the wind with droppong temps and a quick snow makes things a lot more immediate to shut down.

I'm curious to see how long it sticks around since it's supposed to be in the 50s or 60s by Thursday.

I would say the closings of I80 has more to do with east west semi trucks that are extremely vulnerable to the 55-65 mph winds out of the north. Wouldn't want anything to do with driving a semi with box trailer in that type of cross winds.

North of Algona, and the wind is just whipping still. Wouldn't surprise me if we are easily gusting over 50 mph still. I can't imagine that I'll see a plow on my gravel road until late tomorrow, or early Tuesday. Ugh.

It’s supposed to be dying down up north here but it seems to be getting worse. We are ground zero for this storm.

I guess it depends where you are but for me wind the blowing what snow has fallen so hard I couldn't see a damn thing.

The UV index in central Iowa on Friday is predicted to be 5, with highs around 78. This means that you may need both sunscreen and ice melt within a span of a few days.
