***OFFICIAL 2026 WEATHER THREAD***

Some of my co-workers are working from home tomorrow because it's going to be cold. They are appalled that I have not chosen that action. Nope. My kid's daycare is open. He's going there and I'm coming to the office.
Could be justified if the car won't start. Sometimes they don't at -17.

My kids are home from school, so this seems like the better choice.

That's because there are no trees in ND. They all exploded from the cold thousands of years ago.
We always said, there's a good lookin' girl behind every tree.

The kids there would wear shorts to school if it was 20 or warmer, including the ones who walked a mile. It's a different kind of winter, you get acclimated. Tomorrow's weather wouldn't even be noteworthy.

ISU says in a facebook post:
Due to the forecast for dangerously cold temperatures, Iowa State University will partially close and classes (day and evening) will meet virtually on Friday, Jan. 23.
Students should check email and Canvas for additional information from their instructors.
Updates will be posted at www.isualert.iastate.edu.

That web page has all the info that just came in an email. Like earlier this winter, there are several services maintained throughout a partial closure, and all academic buildings are locked. Other than those services, it's up to supervisors to decide whether their employees need to come in. I've come in during really cold weather before -- can get a lot done without noise and activity of regular circumstances.

;) C'mon. I was a student here, and I wanted to eat. I remember one day (or maybe an afternoon) of canceled classes due to snow. A couple of friends and I walked up Welch Ave to the 7-11 and each bought a bottle of beer we wanted to try. Mine was Heineken. Memorable, guess.

This sounds like a Clerks spin off.

I work downtown DSM and have a Dr. appt first thing in the morning that I scheduled a year ago, otherwise I'd be working remotely tomorrow.
