*** Official 2025 Chicago Cubs Thread***

but didn't they lose

Yes, finally. The home run to take the lead in the top of the ninth was par for the course based on how they’ve won a lot of their games. The Reds showed grit in winning that one.

Perhaps the Cubs are showing some offensive life and situational hitting? PCA has warmed up, Dansby’s been ok, but we need Tucker to show what he’s capable of. Still have no idea why you pull Caissie up just to sit. The pitching has been good enough, so I’m hoping we’ll catch fire soon (like this upcoming series).

Tucker is mailing it in at this point. I don't want him back, not for the stoopid money someone will pay him--and regret deeply a few years down the road. Not happy about giving away Cam Smith for this, but I do think it was a worthwhile gamble, not going to crap on Jed for this one. No one figured Tucker would play this poorly for such an extended period of time. Definitely NOT a superstar worth half a billion dollars.

Hopefully this kickstarts a reversion to the mean for the Brewers :D
Ironically I was actually for brewers today. I think it's more likely we finish behind Reds than in front of Brewers at this point. Maybe broke up their momentum before a 5 game set on otherside. Win/win

And then Counsel pinch hits him for the hottest hitter on the team…why??

He's definitely costing himself millions rights now with this prolonged slump. Makes you wonder if he will have to take a shorter deal with some opt outs this offseason like others have lately that didn't perform in a contract year. Especially with the CBA expiring after the 2026 season you have to wonder what the appetite will be for teams to spend on big long term contracts this offseason no knowing if there may be some hard cap or more expensive luxury taxes coming out of this next round.

In regards to the CBA, I do think it is time for baseball to put some kind of max payroll limit in place and as part of that maybe put in some kind of minimum payroll floor as well so you don't have teams spending less on their entire payroll than some teams have 1 player that makes more than that alone. I get that with the varying sizes of markets and fan support you will never see some teams spend like they are a big market team ,but having some kind of max and minimum will close that gap a bit for a more competitive balance in the league and not allow teams to just completely gut their payrolls like we see these days.

He is overrated. Good but not a great player
