*** Official 2025 Chicago Cubs Thread***

At least Counsel tried to steal some bases, they got a bunt down today too. Got a sac fly. He at least has tried the last couple games to get some runs over.

I think it will get better, PCA hit today, Busch has hit a couple home runs lately, Happ hit a ball hard. Suzuki had a hit. Tucker hit a ball hard too.

Colin Rea was fantastic again. Just not sure how long this starting pitching can keep this up. Really a good run by the starters.

What does Kaplan want? A ranting Dennis Green post game talk? Sure it's Counsell's job to push the right buttons, but for experienced players like Happ, Swanson, Hoerner, Suzuki, Tucker, Turner, Kelly, etc. pretty much have to find their swing themselves.

It's pretty apparent players are pressing & frustrated- so IMO Counsell going on a public rant isn't going to help.

Counsell should've stuck up for Suzuki and got himself ejected on the egregious strike 3. The team hasn't had life for months. Show some emotion and stick up for your players

we are way closer to the reds than the brewers….Mets lost, cardinals losing as well

Mets have lost like 12 of 14. Thank god.

Yep. He just stands there on the top step of the dugout like an upright corpse.

Maybe it’s bad luck but seems like every button Counsel pushes is the wrong one.

Look, Craig Counsel is not the problem. I wasn’t a Craig Counsel fan when he was a player, so I can’t believe I’m defending him…but it’s no coincidence in my opinion that Counsel was the most desired manager when we got him. He leaves Milwaukee and the Brewers barely miss a beat. Craig Counsel is probably a decent manager…maybe even great. The Chicago organization is not as good as the Milwaukee organization.

Another issue is coaching staff. In year 1 he stuck with a lot guys from the Ross years. Over last winter he made some adjustments (base coaches), but I fully expect to see a change in our hitting coach over the winter.

IMO there is too much of an emphasis on getting loft to hit HR's. That might work for some players, but feel like the reality is most of the Cubs position players have double power vs. home run power. And we have seen that when the wind blows in at Wrigley, it's very tough to hit it out.
 
First and second, nobody out....next two guys swing at the first pitch. Kelly pops up, Happ hits a ball hard but right at the right fielder, Nico hits it hard but right at a guy. Have to try to bunt and get those guys over with nobody out. I don't care if it's Kelly, get the bunt down.

Lot of good stuff the last couple days. Not perfect but way better. Can’t sit around and wait for the 3 run HR when things are like this. Have to get runners over and do what they did today….other than the 6th they did a good job. Tucker couple hits, stolen base. Suzuki key hit. Nico was Nico and PCA looks like he might be turning the corner.

Another great pitching performance from Shota.
