*** Official 2025 Chicago Cubs Thread***

I think they should go ahead and IL Suzuki. A lingering wrist issue is no bueno. See if you can get it right. Probably zero chance it would happen, but calling up Ballestaros and letting him get some DH ABs sure would be fun! Sounds like he’s taking right now as always.

That's the thing though, they will probably say that it is day to day then he sits for a week or more or plays hurt awhile then goes to the IL eventually. They pulled this crap with a few guys last year they should have just sent to the IL right away instead hope they healed without sitting awhile. It's early in the season and we have young guys in Iowa or on the bench that are more than capable of filling in at DH for a couple weeks.

It came out shortly after the announcement that it would be more than a minimum stint

How typical for being a Cyclone and Cubs fan. We just can't ever have nice things, can we? It's mid-April, so that means Steele won't be back until mid-26. Gee Jed, maybe you shoulda signed a decent FA starting pitcher instead of a bullpen swingman like Rea? Just sayin'.

Second TJS for Steele, that's not good, either.

Honestly Steele has looked shaky. I’m not sure next man up is that much of a drop off but it’s definitely a big drop from what we were hoping he’d be this year

Two thoughts regarding Justin Steele that I’ll break up into two separate posts - one depressing, one positive.

Depressing.

What the absolute ******* **** is going on with people in charge of injuries in Chicago? Steele. Alzolay. Injured late in the year, but it isn’t discovered until early the following season a major injury is required.

Stroman had a weird ******* end to his tenure in Chicago.

Swanson and Hoerner both dealt with really weird **** last year.

I pay attention to the entirety of the league, and while weird injuries occur, there isn’t another franchise that has had this consistently weird ******* injury issues happen.

Positive

This is close, but not yet a World Series team.

You go get an ace, I don’t think this is a World Series team. But if that Ace is under contract in 2026, you have a rotation of

Ace/Shota/Steele/Taillon/Boyd, which as is is a top 5 league rotation.

But then if you want Brown, Horton, Birdsell to be that 5, you have the flexibility to trade a Taillon/Boyd to continue building the farm and spend that saved money on the bullpen/a bat

There's plenty of depth and it will light a fuse under them to get Horton up and contributing.

Going to be okaym
