They can't come down to Des Moines and help out? My street is usually plowed a day or two later.

Is your tax payer dollars going to pay for it? City snow plows stay within city limits.
We could walk up from the ground to the roof of my dad's garage where he parked his rock truck. We missed the entire week of school, as the country roads blew full again every night.
We had about 20 inches down here 15 years ago and they called in the national guard to help clear out the snow, compared to today, those storms were a lot worse.
Just cleared the driveway. That was a lot. I'm whipped. Whiskey time.
Des Moines snow removal is a joke. I grew up in Des Moines, and it was usually 2-3 days before they would plow our street, which was a somewhat busy through street. By that time, the only thing the plows did was polish the compacted snow into ice. Its sad they have everyone brainwashed to believe this is normal. Everywhere I have ever lived since, the sidestreets have been plowed before mid day.
Damn it took me a while to connect the dots, we were with out power for damn close to a couple of weeks if I remember right, I was pretty young but my folk's farm always ended up with the shared generator on the overnite because dad milked and his brothers only had beef and hogs so they got the generator during the day. It had to be a lot of work for the 3 of them the creature comforts on equipment back then weren't much. Heat housers on the tractors was all they had.
I always used the molded masks choring. That was 20 years ago.
I do all the sidewalks on my block and a half stretch.
It helps when we don’t have sidewalks.
How do garbage trucks even get work done? Ours comes around 5:45 in the morning. That makes more than what nearly every city code allows.
The kids haven’t changed. The litigation system has.
Do you have proof that’s the case? It seems like a boomer explanation with no basis in fact.
I suspect schools are a bit quicker to call things off now but mostly we forget how often we had snow days growing up.
Hey, when I was in first grade I went to school on a Saturday because we missed too much school. Would have been winter off …….. 1978?….. I believe. We were supposed to have school the next Saturday but the state waived 5 snow days the Monday after that.
We had a first year teacher that was hung over I think and none of us wanted to be there. So we watched TV and read books. It was a sheetshow.
These kids don’t know what sucking means, school on Saturday as a 6 year old blows.
I remember that one like it was yesterday. I went to grocery store with my mom. Just to keep her company, and I wanted to get out in it. I remember being in the dairy section when all of a sudden there was a huge flash of bright light and loud, loud thunder.
Everyone is the store stopped and looked around with the “ohhhhhhh ****” face. It was incredible.
