You must really hate “1 and done” players. So selfish they would leave their team and school for $$$.
Actually, I don't see it that way. They are moving on like any coach who takes a better job, CSP being a good example. Chris Klieman at K-State's another. It's a false narrative to say players should be treated like coaches. Put them on salary if you want to do that.

Again, Mooney is not a bad dude for choosing to leave the USAFA, and then choosing to leave USD, all in his self interest. That's today in our world for far too many. I'm only saying by comparison that Daum should be admired for staying at South Dakota State when he could have gone anywhere.

No but again if I were to transfer jobs I would be leaving my engineering team, boss, retirement, and considerable investment the company has made in me, yet you would say I was trying to "improve my position in life" and let it be?
You're a professional just like CSP and your colleagues.

Actually you did pretty much say Mooney was a bad dude.

That's a cop-out. Daum stayed with his school, teammates, coach, student body. Mooney went all 'me' on USD. I respect Daum's choice more.

Shame on him for leaving his school, teammates, fellow students, coach, et al to chase his own personal agenda. There are all sorts of ways to argue that point. I only said I respected Daum's choice more than Mooney's. I didn't say Mooney is a bad dude. I also believe the grad transfer thing has to change or chaos awaits.

Shame on you for being a douchebag.

Correct. I'm not a fan of this grad transfer rule and suspect it will soon change.

LOL. Sure, that all squares up. "I'm pulling for the kid, but I also think he's a selfish, me-first punk."

I hope the rule doesn't change. It's good for the players and the business of college basketball. Keeps things interesting in the offseason and it affords a program to turn things around quickly if they can get the right guys. Is it tough on the coaches? Sure, absolutely. But that's why they make the big bucks, to deal with headaches like that.

They should all sit out a transfer year. That would put an end to the charade. I have a lot more respect for Mike Daum's choice than Mike Mooney. We shall see which benefited himself the most.

You're swimming against the current here. A lot of the restrictions that the NCAA places on athletes will be going away, especially anything that could be subject to legal challenges that could absolutely rewrite the way college sports work.

The classic straw man argument, poorly played, I might add. But I accept if that's how you see Mooney.
I mean... Matt Mooney's coach left for another job that off-season before he made his decision. Does that not play into a players thought process/do you give them the benefit of the doubt if that is the case? Sounds like you don't for Mooney, but I'd argue a coach has as much to do with a player choosing a school as all the other things you say they should be loyal to. Hard to plant that flag as the coach is doing the opposite.

This is Mooney's third school. It's also Owens third school. If you find this a healthy situation, you find it different than me. Mike Daum stayed at SDSU. I believe his choice was admirable. He's better than either of the TxT transfers. Again, that makes neither a bad person (in my view) only my assessment of which choice(s) was preferable.

Then why even bring them up as a example? Just say "given today's transfer and grad transfer climate, it really makes me appreciate the Mike Daum's of the world and those who choose to stick out their entire career with a single program."

You don't have to hate on a kid making a decision in their early 20s to get your point across. It can be one without the other.

The subject is transfer thread. These three are prime examples of why a change is coming. And stop the straw man 'hate' crap, please. I reserve 'hate' for cancer, Hitler, and the like.
