Re: REPORT: Alvin Gentry, not Fred Hoiberg, favorite to replace Tom Thibodeau

Lim not going to get upset at ppl like jsb...one of the main things that I've seen is "Fred always said blah blah blah" and pollard always said Fred was going to blah blah bla" like that somehow makes everything fine. Like pre announcing everything and everyone knowing the score beforehand makes it okay and there shouldn't be any hand wringing over then after. We're humans when has inevitability ever been a subject that we've handled well?

No fan base would handle this well.

Someone made a comparison to LeBron and Cleveland and that is pretty spot on. Of course we won't have the ANGER that Cleveland fans had at LeBron when he left.

But the sadness will be there.

Basically it comes down to if Fred Hoiberg won't stay at Iowa State more than 5 years (a place he's had huge success---it's not like he's sucked),, then who will? We finally found a coach who we thought knew what it was like to be in the bunker of mostly **** that is an Iowa State fan. And he made it very cool to be a fan---Iowa State basketball has never had the national attention and prestige that it had under Fred. And he doesn't even want to be here. That sucks.

Look....I'm as ****** about the situation we could be in as anyone.

But it is best not to talk about that on here. Everything is fine! Who cares?

What? If we can't talk about it here, where can we?

But why does he have to go to the NBA this year with the roster we have?

I know one thing this loss is not onFT shooting! Giving up offensive rebounds is still a suspect however.

This is just a sucky situation.
Yep. Thought a young Fred would stay for ten years. Any coach replacement will have a three year honeymoon to prove his worth for Ames. This starting over is like getting remarried to a look alike wife. Truly Hitting the national stage will take more time if Fred leaves. I can see Self smiling now.

Time for a new Athletic Director, plain and simple. Losing ISU legends Cael and Fred while supporting McDermott, Chizik, and CPR pretty much does it for me. Nevermind his endless stream of ******** comments in the media regarding transfers, freshman, etc. He can build buildings. Great, we needed that for a time, but that time has passed. Now it's time to ******* win and losing the golden goose is the final straw. Fire JP.

Yeah, Self knows the new coach won't threaten him long-term.

I don't know about a 3 year honeymoon. It would be very hard for a coach to be the first one to follow Hoiberg. You don't want to be that guy. You want to be the guy that follows the guy. Looking at history, it is easy to think that we are 5 years away from digging out of the hole that will happen.

If a new coach was successful next year, it would buy him sometime. But any sign of weakness next year would pretty much screw him.

Dat Bulls roster doe

That's what makes this whole situation weird for me. I don't think that roster is that great. They couldn't beat a depleted Cavs team. LeBron is going to still be in Cleveland. Gasol and Noah are older, Jimmy butler is a free agent and might not sign with the bulls. Rose is an injury away from retirement.

This is silly. Jamie isn't stupid. He wants to keep Fred.

Fred's dream isn't here apparently. It's in the NBA. It's too bad we have the one local legend that wants out this quickly, but we do. It has been a fun 5 years though!

I think everyone can get on board that this is brutal and probably happening. I picture self getting his head massages on a beach with a bad sunburn making huge bets on the ponies and wearing a crisp gold chain just loving his life atm.

Because nothing has happened. Players are emotional, regardless of how much they like Fred if he has already told them there would be something from one of them. It's just human nature.
Exactly. Which is why I'm hesitant to completely buy into the various rumors that are floating out there. Sure, there is a lot of smoke, and it's making me nervous as hell. But why would any of these people, who are probably be getting information third- or fourth-hand in most situations, know anything with such certainty when the players aren't making a peep? Doesn't add up.

Dear god. We're in a 3rd dimension of meltdown at this point.

I'm not sure the Bulls elimination really had much if any impact on what Bulls management wanted to do. I'd still be interested in knowing what Cloned had to say.

Lit had an impact on Fred's decision and timing though. Things might not have been so simple if thibs takes that team to a title. Probably wouldn't have changed the outcome but it definitely would have changed how things could play out.
