Let me start by saying my family loves dogs. We have adopted 3 Boxers over the years and treat them like our kids. Treating them like our kids means not letting them be ridiculous. If they were ever out of line we corrected it and our dogs are/were really well behaved.
The neighbors dog....lord. Its a German Shepherd mix with a very healthy bark. Problem is it wont EVER stop barking. I cant go in my backyard without it barking non-stop. No exaggerating. The neighbor is kind of a recluse so we dont really talk but he can see it annoys the hell out of me. He just throws up an arm and says sorry.
I feel like buying a bark collar and having it sent to their house. I cant be the only person to be annoyed with a neighbors pet/actions
My neighbors have five dogs. They seem to get a different dog every week but for some reason, their number remains at 5. I suspect that's because if they had 6, they would need a kennel license, per city ordinance.
These dogs love to bark at me. Get the mail, bark, bark. Go to the store, bark, bark. Get back from the store, bark, bark. Take the trash out, bark, bark. Get a delivery, bark, bark. All five of them.
But by far, their favorite activity is to chase me on the lawn mower. Luckily, there's a fence between me and them, but I still have to mow right up next to the fence and they chase me all along that fence, snapping at me. I fear some of the bigger dogs are big enough to jump right over the fence if they were smart enough to get a running start, but they're too stupid for that. But it's sure a joy to mow 120 feet down one side of my yard with snapping, snarling dogs following me all the way, literally close enough to be hit with flying spittle.
The neighbors see this madness every time I mow and do nothing about it. I actually complained to them about their dogs because their kennel or outdoor area where their food is because the whole backyard is their kennel, is right under my bedroom window. I've worked second shift my whole life, so I sleep in late until about 11 a.m. Now these neighbors have a garage and they put the dogs up in that when it gets too cold out and sometimes when it gets too hot.
We live across the street down a half a block from an elementary school, so when the kids start going to school at 7:30, 8 in the morning, these dogs bark at them until there are no more students coming. I went to complain to the neighbors about it, telling them about my work schedule and how I wished there was something they could do with their dogs until about 11 or so, and for about a week after that, they kept the dogs in the garage so I could sleep. It lasted a week and then they were right back at it, waking me up every morning. The only times I could sleep late was on weekends.
They got yet another new dog (still keeping the total at 5) who barked incessantly at nothing. It barked mostly at night. About 2 a.m. it started in one night and I laid there until 3 a.m. waiting for it to stop. It didn't. Finally, I'd had enough, got dressed and went over to knock on their door. The woman comes to the door rubbing sleep out of her eyes and I tell her that her dog has been barking nonstop for the past hour.
"Oh, is he bothering you? I couldn't hear him."
You couldn't hear him? Are you deaf? The neighbors blocks away could hear him. Thankfully, that dog didn't last long. It was replaced a few weeks later by another barker, although not as bad as him.
So that's it. In the 10-plus years I've lived here, I've complained about their dogs exactly twice and they bark every day at all hours of the day and night. I must be getting used to it though, because they very rarely wake me up anymore. But if I haven't gotten to sleep yet and they are barking, it's very hard for me to drop off until they quit.
