Cali and New York state taxes are having an effect. The rich extra tax in Cali is bad for Clippers, Warriors, Kings, Lakers.
Taxes are the least of the problems for the Kings & Knicks. The fact that both organizations are raging dumpster fires has a lot more to do with the lack of free agents going there.
Wesley does have a point though. The Kings offer for Matthews while paying him more, if you include taxes, he's not getting more money than signing with Dallas.
Rondo for a one year deal at 10 million and Marco at 6 Million per year for 3 years are both good contracts. If Rondo is a bust then it was a risk worth taking. Kings also still have 10 million to work with still.
Tobias for the max would have been a bad signing with Gay already there.

Lakers trade for Hibbert. Waiting for bmb and BodeClone. Kobe and Hibbert will work great together.
He was going to be an albatross for them this year. He still has value as an interior defender in the half court but his offensive game falls somewhere between lackluster and flat out terrible plus he's just a so-so rebounder for a seven footer. If the Pacers are serious about playing smaller and faster then Hibbert had to go even if all they get in return is cap relief and a future pick. And there's still a host of second tier frontcourt free agents (ok, fine...the second tier guys are gone. We're basically looking at the Jordan Hills and mirza Teletovics of the world now) they can pursue now to fill out the roster.

Koufos is a solid player but, weird fit for Sac, considering having Boogie, Gay, and just drafting Culey-Stein. I don't think they'll be close to a playoff team in the west though. Mav's and NO were the 7-8 with OKC, Utah, and Phx all missing last year and have improved more than what the Kings have done up to this point.
Plus this Karl Boogie thing has the potential of blowing up at anytime.
But that cap space clearing trade they made with Philly destroyed their immediate future. If their first rounder next year falls out of the top ten it goes to the Sixers, right? And then after that, the Sixers have the right to swap picks with the Kings in the first round in two MORE drafts. And all the Kings have to show for that so far is a one year rental of Rajon Rondo and a serviceable backup center.
And it sure looks like the Karl/Boogie relationship is irreparable. That team is going to be explosive this year, and not in a good way.
Not really. Landry and Thompson were bad contracts. Stauskas was never going be anything more than Bellinelli at best. The swap is for the next 2 drafts only from what I've seen. I doubt Philly will be better than Sacramento in either the next two years.
We know how good the Kings are at drafting. Ask Jimmer, Thomas Robinson, and Stauskas.

that's much improved from last year, especially the bench. Going from Landry, Andre Miller, Derrick Williams, Reggie Evans, and Nik Stauskas to that is quite an improvement. Stats also say the Kings had a top 10 starting lineup last year when Collison was healthy. The bench was absolutely horrible. Now you upgrade the bench to respectable and I can see the Kings compete for the 8 spot. I have them 9th-10th right now with an injury to another team could get them in the playoffs.
Karl has gotten to the playoffs 21 out of 26 times as a coach(including last year so 21 out of 25), he obviously gets to the playoffs more than he doesn't. He's struggled when he gets to the playoffs but the Kings will gladly take getting there for now. I still think they are one year away from getting there but they'll be way better than people think.

Don't forget with all the young talent Minny has I would be surprised to see them maybe fighting for last playoff spot.
