NBA Draft Projections

So you heard what you wanted to hear. Gotcha.

CycloneErik being a sarcastic guy. Shocking.

I'll take one from your page. Yep, I want to hear that our best player is leaving early to go to the NBA. I'd rather Iowa State not be a top 10 team next year..........

That's good, except that he didn't say that. He said that it wasn't certain either way on that. Check cyclonepride's posts on that interview. He was accurate all day with that.

Right now, we don't know that Fred agrees or disagrees. The way that man keeps his cards close to the vest, we won't know until he wants us to know.

So you heard what you wanted to hear. Gotcha.

That wasn't sarcastic. Just a straight-forward evaluation.

Sorry but you are being sarcastic and condescending. I'm not sure why you are in this thread but it's par for the course.

I didn't hear what I wanted to hear. If I did that I would have heard, "Royce is coming back next year and we are going to win the National title"

Going to trust you're right about those #s, very well done.

I think that's a great indicator of the ceiling, but not a good indicator of who would actually play more minutes right now. There's still a very good chance Green is a better NBA contributor than White on day one, but there's a much less likely chance of Green ever becoming a more dangerous starter at any point.

Another thing that really matters is personnel of the team and injuries. Any player not taken in the top 15 or so really needs some breaks in the personnel and injury departments. The first half of the year the Bulls first round pick Jimmy Butler and journeyman John Lucas III (Ok State) played pretty much zero non-garbage time minutes. When Rose and Watson were hurt at the same time they both suddenly got a ton of minutes. Butler didn't really win himself more minutes when the team is at full strength, Lucas did himself major favors and will be getting minutes with the Bulls or some other team for at least the next year or so because of his play.

Who knows what might happen with Royce's situation. Brackins keeps coming up, CB may be an injury away from proving he does or doesn't belong in the NBA.

Solid points. I think the only thing that holds Royce back from being a really good NBA player is Royce himself. Or should I say his issue with anxiety. Talent wise he has the goods to compete against the highest level of talent and do well.

The question I have is this mock draft does not have any players from overseas on the list. The last few drafts I have paid attention to have had 10-12 players from Europe in the first round. Are they all going to disappear this year?

They could easily push RW out of the first round.

This. There is no way there won't be 8-12 overseas guys nobody has never heard of in the first round. Not a good mock draft at all. Also, position needs don't seem to be addressed at all in this draft. there is no way that royce goes ahead of somebody like quincy miller who is taller/more athletic and has a higher ceiling. Also There are some very talented pg's early in the second round and the NBA has been drafting pg's in the first round the last few years. I honestly wouldn't risk it unless I was a projected lottery pick, but I am not royce. Plus with the guys that are projected to leave, if he comes back I think he will get to lottery pick status next year. And yes, his exposure will be way higher on a team that wins the Big 12 and a team that goes to elite 8 or further, So I think it is ridiculous that people don't think he will get hotter on the draft boards than he is now.

Here is what I think about these prognosticators. Last week they had Royce ranked in the 60s, now they have him in the 20s. To me that says they're not paying very close attention. As such, I'm putting almost no credence to what they have to say at this point.

I like Jeremy "Windmill" Lamb at #6 overall. Do NBA GM's even watch the players they're drafting or just pull names out of hats?

I'm so thankful the Bulls have gone from a GM who trades all stars to pick players like that, to very intelligent management that generally avoids players like that.

So you didn't hear the interview? Gotcha.

Maybe I interpreted different but I took the way he said it to mean that he didn't really think it would matter much if he came back. In the end it doesn't matter. Royce is going pro as he should. Good for him and good for us. It's always good to have a player from Iowa State get drafted and play in the NBA

I heard it - Fred did not say either way. He said (paraphrasing): "some players do not improve their stock - they come back another year, trying to do so, but it does not work out for one reason or another. Other players come back, and do improve their draft position"

So, if you stop listening after the initial part, you don't get that he says the reverse can happen too. Fred was non-committal on Royce's specific situation - he spoke generally.

If he had said "Royce cannot improve his draft stock" there is nothing to decide about staying or going - the decision would essentially be made.

I will be shocked if Draymond Green ever contributes much in the NBA. GREAT college player. GREAT! But I don't think he translates at all to the NBA
I thought the same thing About Paul Milsap and Zach Randolph and I was wrong. They are horses around the bucket. Our Percy is not too bad either.

Milsap is 6'8 253 lbs and a great athlete
Zach Randolph is 6'9 270 lbs

Green is 6'6 225 lbs and has shown he can't score inside against big, talented players. I hope I'm wrong on Green as I love his game and love his attitude. I think he'd have to have a perfect fit to be good in the NBA

Where's Eric Griffin from Campbell?? I posted something about Iowa's defense being terrible because they allowed him to go for 23 points/13 rebounds and Taco jumped down my throat claiming Eric Griffin "will be playing in the NBA". Funny, I don't see him anywhere in the top 100.

Royce definitely in that questionable position whether to stay or go. If he's a lock for the 1st round definitely worth going but guys projected in the 20's are always at risk to fall into the 2nd round.

Green offers many intangible skills like leadership and high basketball IQ that not many youngsters possess. He may not be freak athlete or huge, but he knows how to play the game.

We will know what RW wants to do pretty soon because of new NBA draft rule where they have to declare by week after Final Four.

I understand that. I love how he plays the game. But he's a tweener. There is a reason many project him to go in the 2nd round.
