The way I remember it, it wasn't on a street it was in a parking garage outside a police substation. The "friends" (aka more football players getting into trouble) started problems with the police office who just got off work. Can somebody else confirm or refute this?
They, as a group, tried to start a fight with an off duty police officer. Are you going to tell me that the off-duty police officer decided "hey, I just got off work. Why don't I start a fight with these poor hawk football players"? Your never ending efforts to twist the problems in to non-issues is laughable. Marijuana possession is slightly worse than MIP, let's check what happened to hawk and clone football players with MIP issues and base the punishment off that. I don't know what happened with Long, if he assaulted a police officer he should have been punished severely, but I do know it is one example of an ISU athlete. Might be able to come up with one or two more over the past year. How many has UI had? When I went to ISU in the mid-90s the wrestling team had problems, and most ISU fans knew it and made it clear they needed to clean up the program. I think you might want to think about the whole glass house thing.
It is abundently clear that you will continue to twist and spin no matter what is put in front of you so I am ending my discussion with you. As a real UI alum (yes, I went to grad school there), I am embarrased by the football and wrestling (because of the behavior of the coaches, I don't put it in the same category as the football program) programs. I know many others who actually lived in the community and went to school there that feel the same way, or at least realize improvements need to be made. It seems to primarily be the people with no connection to the universtiy other than being a fan that go on and on about how there is no problem. I wonder why that is?
Sunset, I find it convenient you know everything about Iowa issues, but fail to know anything about ISU's. Everyone that likes Hawkeye football, was extremely embarrassed of the actions of a few football players back in '07. If that crap starts happening again, then yes, it would be cyclical, and yes something should be done. Ferentz added a life coach, :mask:, and since, we've had minimal issues. As for the 2nd Ferentz situation, two walkon's got into a shouting match with an off duty officer, who called for backup, after he witnessed one of them break a parking garage gate. As they were shouting, Ferentz's drunka$$ was walking down the street, saw his two buddies, and started yelling at the guy, as well, from a block away. The on duty cops showed up almost immediately and arrested all three. He was wrong for being drunk underage, and wrong for assuming his buddies were in the right, as he knew nothing about the situation. I really would like to know your definition of a criminal, because these two situations, do not define a criminal to me. As for Clayborn, Cyplains, are you suggesting that we should waive his rights as a citizen, because he's a Hawkeye football player. Last I checked, it's innocent until proven guilty in this country, and not just Hawkeye football players, get their trials delayed.
