Metcalf antics

Why do ISU fans care if Iowa fans went to school there or not. It's such a stupid argument. I guess we can't be fans of any major league sport, because we don't have any in our state.

i think it was originally the punch line of a joke that has gone way to far.

what do iowa fans and iowa state fans have in common-neither went to the university of iowa.

was good for a chuckle at one time, but in all honesty, i wish we had as many non alumni fans as you do.

This. I'm an Iowa State fan and I think it's the stupidest argument. I'm pretty sure that it is a two way street. I know plenty of people that didn't attend Iowa State and still are fans just like I know plenty of people that didn't attend Iowa and still are fans. Who cares?

If you are speaking to my comment, let me spell it out for you. If you are a hawk fan and you don't live in Iowa City, and have never lived in Iowa City, you probably don't care what goes on in Iowa City. They can bring in all the trouble they care to, it doesn't effect you guys. I did live in Iowa City and I do care what goes on in Iowa City.

Is that clear enough for you?

Fella? Can you recall a time where Metcalf was celebrating and running around DURING a match?

I don't especially care for the guy either. But in that scenario with emotions running and Caldwell acting like a tool, I have a hard time pinning too much of that onto Metcalf.
I don't agree with Caldwell's antics either. I'm saying it's a two way street. Get ****** and shove a guy for showing no class and then act like a tool yourself doesn't cut it in my book.

I think if you watch the video of him you can see their not in his head. This guy is going to win this season. Mark my word there. I think we come out ahead at the end of the season.

I really hope so.

I fully support Jackson going public with the issue. Punk behavior by those associated with Iowa's wrestling program has been given a free pass for too long. It's clear that nobody in the Iowa administration has the stones to rein it in. They might chose to ignore it or even encourage it, but it's only fair to start getting some outside criticism.

I can't argue with you on this. I see your point.

Just keeping this thread alive.

Okay...I'm just saying that Metcalf shoving Caldwell didn't really bother me. At all.

Actually Sunset, your whole post made me more confused, and I can't believe I'm actually taking the time to respond to it. I lived there from '95 through '00, and have lived in Des Moines since. Putting all the BS aside, I've sat beside many clone wrestling fans at meets, and given them high-fives, after watching Cael whip hawk after hawk, because it was amazing to watch such a great person, and wrestler, kick a$$, despite me being a hawk fan. I'd rather watch ISU kick *** in a sporting event, than a school from outside this state because I know most of the fans are Iowans just like me. I also don't understand the rape argument with Ferentz. He kicked them off the team immediately, and they never played a down of football for us afterwards. What more was Ferentz supposed to do? He's a good guy, just like Rhoads, Jackson, Mcdermott, and Lick. Calipari, Carroll, Meyer, etc etc are the aholes that we should be focusing on.

I can see why you are confused, you can't seem to follow what is being discussed. The fact that you lived in IC doesn't adress the point, that a lot of hawk fans never have (which is what somebody questioned to begin with). My explanation to the question of why this matters is that people who have no connection to the community aren't going to care what goes on in that community. If that still confuses you then I can't help any further and I wont take any further time to respond to you.

As far as Farentz goes, my original question still stands; how many times are hawk fans going to see the cycle repeat before they say enough is enough? The argument here isn't how he handled a specific situation (though there can, and have been, lengthy discussion on that subject), it's that he conintues to bring kids into the community that cause problems. This doesn't seem to matter to hawk fans, they simply are happy that the football team wins and don't care about the problems. Why is that?

What program doesn't have problems? You singling out the football team, as the problem to the community, is a stretch at best. I'd say the real problem with IC right now, is the low income housing issue going on, but you being such a knowledgeable person about IC, you probably already knew that. Whether I'm a member of the community or not, I care when a player of my favorite team gets arrested. I don't have to live there to feel the repurcussions. Furthermore, I've seen many fights and arrests that involved students to the university. Perhaps we should close down the U of I all together, as it poses such a problem for the city of Iowa City. Come on man, your argument is just silly. Also, what cycle? You mean underage athletes getting in trouble with drinking? Rape happened once, kicked off the team. Stealing happened once, kicked off the team. Drugs happened once, kicked off the team. All of those kids had clean records before this stuff happened, so how does Ferentz prevent this? I'd like your answer. College towns and drinking happen. We all know this, to pretend we never did it, or weren't immature with alcohol at some point in our lives, is silly too. Do you know Ferentz son's first arrest was in the back of a car, that had alcohol in it? Didn't matter if he was drinking or not, but that's why he got the ticket.

I don't care a bit whether Iowa fans went to school there or not. If ISU wants to expand its fanbase, it's going to have to get some fans that don't have an academic connection and I hope that we do.

I only make this distinction with regards to attending Iowa. Of all the Iowa fans that I like, they all went to school there. Of all the Iowa fans that I can't stand because of their condescending attitude, none of them went there.

Note the comment to the Gazette article:

"I was sitting at the scorers table for the finals dual. When Metcalf got his last takedown on Mueller, he looked towards the Iowa State bench. He said nothing and gestured nothing at that time. Kevin Jackson hollored at Metcalf and said, "It's about time you got a takedown". Maybe that comment is what provked Metcalf's post-match response!"

This seems more plausible than anything else I've heard. It also explains why KJ saw it and cared about it at the press conference.

P.S. I still expect KJ to call out Varner (or say something general about how he doesn't want his guys to gesture after matches).

No one from ISU would ever do any such thing....has to be a lie right?

Red herrings all around. Existing problems that should be adressed do not impact the fact that the football team has brought more problems to the community. If you want to close your eyes to the problems (which is really what we are debating here anyway, the fact that hawk fans do choose to ignore the problems) then go right ahead. At least be honest about what you are doing.

As to the bolded part above; maybe he can seek counsel from the plethora of football programs that do not have the number of arrests his team has. I surely don't expect him to be able to handle it on his own when he can't even keep his own kid out of trouble (you hide behind the "first" arrest, what about the other problems?). Surely you have to at least wonder why his record is so bad. I guess you put it off to bad luck.........

Is the sponsored vasectomy ad and the number of hawk trolls in this thread related? For the greater good.

I'm sorry, is saying "about time you got a takedown" in the same ballpark as making a jerking *** motion? Really?

In no way am I saying ISU people can't or don't do things they shouldn't, but are you really making using this as an example?

Wow.

Huh, it sure is funny that you forgot to mention the assaults that happened before the season at least twice, and both had their trails delayed more than 8 months to let the players play. Now we'll probably see AC's trial delayed another year since he has decided to stay.

His record is so bad? He only got arrested one more time, and that was for hollering at an undercover police officer, that he thought two of his friends were fighting. He was walking down the street, saw two of his friends in a yelling match with an undercover, started hollering himself, and was arrested for public intox. Is that bad? Is that what you are talking about? ISU starting Dback is arrested for marijuana possession and is suspended a practice, but you're preaching morals? Long arrested for assaulting police officers and is suspended a meet? Talk about glass houses.

Cyclone fans-Wake up a little. Long, Banks, Laing etc. We have our fair share of problems. I think we are probably a little less troubled than the Hawks but until we go a year with a perfect record I htink we should maybe settle down on this a little. Have we had problems to the extent that the Hawks have? No. However, anything serious that has happened there has resulted in a dismisal. I have trouble with the coaches son repeatedly being in trouble, but there never real serious trouble.

Hawk Fans-Wake up, there is obviously a disciplinary/teaching how to conduct yourself problem somewhere. I am not saying that it some huge problem but there is something that needs fixed. It's not really even the punishment it is the fact that the punishment needs to happen. You can talkj about Banks all you want but the fact is that he was done in before Rhoads got here.

Banks passed a drug test and the witness didnt give the best info. I dont even know of he ever got charged.
