McD will get another year after tonight's effort.

he was already getting another year. this game didn't change anything.

Your absolutely right on Janny.

No doubt mcderm was coming back next year regardless of how bad he did or even if he finished in last place.

Next year will be another 15 win season and an emptier hilton coliseum

"jamie pollard needs to see a lot more empty seats in hilton coliseum"....quoting Keith from Ames season ticket holder/donor 10yrs

Why would he say anything in-season and put the doubt in people's minds? That's called counterproductive.

I agree Angie...No athletic director in his right mind would say before the season ends what he's going to do re: Coaches....

The season has played out and mcdermott has won four conf games out of 16 and thats not gonna cut it...

I dont care which way Pollard goes with his coach ...Next year is gonna be more of the same regardless of coach .....

I am not ready to give GMac a passing grade for the season on one game, but I am happy that, finally, the Cyclones were the ones that snatched victory from the jaws of defeat. It makes me sick to think how many games the Cyclones lost this year because someone went 3 for 10 at the line, of someone missed a couple of layups, or a three pointer rolled around the rim and fell out, or the other team threw up a prayer and it was answered.

This is a very important win. Its a win we should savor.
It is a win that should be savored but in the overall scheme of things it is not that important. If this win was important it would propel the team into the NCAA or at least the NIT.

The angry mob will be back. They might lay low for a day or two at most. This won't change anything.

I sincerely doubt, financially we could get rid of Mac if we wanted to. Great win, great effort, go Clones.

This game just goes to show how bad a coach Greg is... we beat a number 5 team on the road... have a the talent to do so, and yet ****** the year down our leg.

We are not as bad as our record... but had bad coaching and bad leadership.

This win proves what could have been.

THIS! Been saying it all year. There is/was enough talent on this team to win games. The problem is that the talent was poorly managed/led.

Might make it easier to sell keeping Mac, I enjoyed the win and hope somehow the returning players learned how to close out games. I felt good on a night I had no hopes for, go get Texas.

Finally a great win for this team and coaching staff. I am keeping my opinions to my self about what shakes out for Mac or what should we do etc. I am enjoying this win very much all year I have wanted these players to make me eat my words about being tough and they did tonight, but really only tonight. Confidence builder and make a run in the tourney, see guys playing hard and tough does pay off. Hook the horns!!!

Numbers don't lie. We had one great win. Doesn't excuse all those other horrible losses. People seem to forget that Walden beat Nebraska once too. Should we have not fired him? Please.

Time for a new coach.

The administration should have given him financial support and we wouldn't have needed to fire Walden. He was destined to fail due to lack of support from ISU when he was begging for help to be competitive. Walden was a good coach IMO.

GMac is a good coach and has the administration's support. That is the reason he should and will get more time.

They have to get him extra hydrated, this is like the 5th or 6th game that he has had problems with cramps. Make him keep drinking the fluids when he is on the bench and timeouts.

I am sure they do. Some are just more prone to cramps. Lets not forget he is one leg prob isnt 100% yet.

Honest question for you and others - what is this based on? IMO his tenure at ISU has been a disaster, I honestly would like to know what earns him the 'good' or 'great' qualification?

Just because it isnt working out for him at ISU doesnt mean he is a bad coach.

Fair enough. Still looking for the objective criterion used to establish that he is a good coach? Usually this is found in the form of stats - number of conference titles, number of all-league players, conference winning percentage etc. etc. Trying to establish what makes him a good coach vs. someone who is perceived to be a 'bad' coach.

Well, for Walden we should have either given him the resources to win, or fired him and hired someone else that we gave the resources to win. We went with choice B. Walden almost did it anyway, I think in 1991? If it wasn't for injuries.

Anyone here that was rooting for K-State needs to GTFO. Now.

If they admit it in a post, they should be banned from the site. You never, ever, ever root against Iowa State if you are an Iowa State fan. EVER.

Uh, Danny Mac worked three times as hard as Walden. Ask anyone in the athletic department, from secretaries to other coaches, who was there with both of them.
Walden had every chance is the world here, and worked harder at making excuses than he did trying to build the program.

Some of the more rabid "haters" may think that Greg is a bad coach. But other than that, I don't think many think he is.

But you have the same group that comes on here and say that he is a great coach. I don't think that is the case either.

There a lot of "good" mid major coaches that can't take the next step. Tim Floyd called it the hardest jump.

I think that the evidence is against Greg, one great win doesn't change that. But there is every reason to think that if he is fired here (whenever that is), he will be able to grab at least an assistant job at a strong mid major.

First-I agree with Floyd there. I know Mac hasn't taken off here at all. If it is such a tough jump, though, maybe time is what he needed or needs to figure it out. I agree if we aren't at least in the NIT next year he has to go. I am not just using last night as possible positives. I am using the fact that this team has been competitive with a lot of things against them.

I would bet he is a head coach within 2 weeks to a month.
