Matt Campbell to Penn State??

The timing is horrible. We potentially had a loaded squad returning for next season. Now we get to watch our best players in Penn State and Hawkeye uniforms. It would've been better had he left after 2021-22.

but is the culture that covered it up for decades and still hasn't owned up to it?

I doubt it
Just based on interactions on reddit (so take that for what it’s worth) I would say the fan base has done a pretty good job cutting that cancerous culture out and has had much more of a reckoning over it. There are still some paterno truthers, but I think they’ve been pretty sidelined.

Much better than how Michigan and Ohio State have dealt with their scandals.

I struggle to see Scheelhase coming back from the NFL. He's probably an NFL HC in a decade and he's with McVey which is the best training there is.

Plus, all the teams have to play by the same rules.
With David Cook coming in, how good is the current NDSU coach?
I’m very familiar with the Missouri Valley. NDSU has had a string of coaches the past 15 years that are highly thought of and extremely successful. But none more so than the current coach. He’s a great guy, a great coach, and a players coach.

I would think Jamie would have him on the list, but I don’t know that. He’s the kind of guy Iowa State fans like a lot I feel.

I think what hurts the most is how fast all these recruits are going flip and players hit the portal.
We could be okie state 2.0 next year where as I would have predicted us around 10 wins otherwise.

And all this is because 10 other coaches said no to PSU. So BYU not only gets to keep their man, by him staying, it took out one of the conference contenders next year for byu also

What's really sad about this, is that Penn State fans will be disappointed in the hire.
I doubt it. At least not until he loses a game they think he should win. I'm sure this process has humbled them some.

Penn State just lucked into the best coach on the market. He's going to be a great fit there and will probably win a natty at some point. I will always root for Campbell. He's taken Iowa State to a level we've never been at and has turned down many lucrative offers over the years to stay here and continue building the program. I know there will be a lot of butt hurt around here, but I can't fault the guy for taking a dream job.

He's not a name and while he consistently won he didn't quite get to next level type of status like Meyer did at BG and Utah.

The Fiesta Bowl was cool but vs. a 4-2 young Oregon team in a weird season for everyone.

That said, he DID win consistently and the CFers that think 'mediocre' 8 win seasons aren't good enough may just get a rude awakening for getting what they wanted.
