Matt Abdelmassih's Quotes

And IIRC, he's a big dude. Like the type of guy that you want on your side if you find yourself in a scuffle.

Obvious total speculation, but if he's here next year, Fred may adjust the way he plays, specifically on defense. Hogue, McKay, and Treadwell down low looks more like a KSt lineup.
He is a big dude with a very good handle. Put him with a better supporting cast and the right system....POY. Would be an incredible addition for anyone if he decides to transfer.

So was Royce. I think Hoiberg will take best talent available and make it work. Could Nader slide to the 2? Who knows.

For the record I was not commenting one way or the other on his size, just describing him for those who didn't know anything about him. ISU just had a 6'6" forward win the POY award in the best conference in America.

Fred has been quoted that he doesn't put much of any thought into the traditional basketball positioning numbers system. iirc, the quote was something like, if you can score, you will play. From what we've seen since Fred has been, it seems to me this is how he goes about crafting his roster.

I heard the comments by Matt and was intrigued, too. Wont allow myself to get over-excited because even if there's interests with some transfers, it doesn't mean they'll decide to come here. Matt was planning on RV and rightly so, but the letdown sucked. Enjoyed the interview, though, and we pretty much know we'll be finding 'someone'. Not sure we'll ever find an immediate guy with the impact of a Kane again. Wow...1st team all Big12, stat stuffer, pg leader, and Monte mentor.

Give me a 23 year old grown A man who has proven his worth over an 18 year old who would rather party in Vegas any day of the week and twice on Sunday! I don't think Matt would have made those comments unless he was pretty certain we had a good shot at landing one (or more) big fish this off-season. Huge difference between a 23 year old with three years of collegiate experience vs. an 18 year old fresh from HS. Like Blum said in his article, one door closes and another possibly opens (hopefully better). Fred and company know what they're doing.

I think CFH believes that there should always be a scholly available for an impact transfer. He'd rather have 12 guys on scholly with a couple walk-ons to scout holding the last available one for a guy like Kane, than he would want a scholarship given to someone who won't likely make his 8 man rotation anyway.

If you've got game, and can impact at ISU right away, Fred wants you here.

The CCL was good for one thing though, allowing me to get on board the 3sus bandwagon early. Naz was tearing it up there.

Exactly. I commented last summer too on how much Naz had improved, and it's shown during the season. You have a lot of good players competing against each other in the CCL, and the defense actually gets pretty intense in the play-offs. Really don't get some people putting down the CCL, if Fred didn't think it was doing the players good to play in it, I doubt they would be. All of our players except Kane competed.

I have heard he is the best player in the program right now. Should be a real treat to see this kid.

This is all stemming from one person who said on here that they "heard" he was the best player on the team one time. I'm willing to bet he is not better than DeAndre Kane is.

I read or heard that somewhere too. I saw him play twice in the CCL and at 6-7 he's got a great body and wing span, and a good handle so he can get to the hoop and finish. Strong and athletic and showed flashes of being a good outside shooter too. He was a little defferential to other players in the games I saw (he was on Naz's team) but he must be really flourishing under Fred in practice. Could easily see how he's got the potential to be one of if not our best player next year, but I still expect Fred to bring in the right transfer for insurance and depth.

I think it was actually a recruit that sat in on a practice during a visit that said Nader was the best player on the team this year. Or it might have been a current player. Something like that.

That's where I remember seeing it first.

Different position, different kind of player. Nader could be our best player (I'm not saying he will be) and still not be as good as Kane. He's been a freak.

I am probably wrong, but it wouldn't surprise me if there are people close to players that have put out feelers about transferring here.

I would be shocked if there wasn't. Now whether there are mutual interest type guys with contact I would say is a better question, but I'd still guess that that is a yes.

Not surprised by these comments at all. Not sure why anyone would think otherwise that we are going to bring someone in that is already pretty good especially since we lost out on Vaughn. It's not like we're in Year one of Hoiball. Our transfer policy is as big a part of Hoiball as undersized bigs and the 3 point shot and will be as long as Fred is the coach.

Freddy just gobbles up any stud athletes that cross his path. He figures out how to win with them later.

It's hard for anyone who plays/coaches college basketball to not notice the success that ISU and Fred Hoiberg's transfers have had. Excited to see who we go after and land after the season.

The thing that surprised me this year was that they took off from the opening bell. The previous few years we've had adjustment periods to start the season.

Hopefully that means that Fred is getting even better at finding that chemistry.
