Captain Marvel was fine. It was just a standard run of the mill superhero movie which is the coin of the realm in movies these days and some people are tired of it and that's okay. I thought Larson's performance was a little wooden but CM isn't exactly a barrel of laughs character. Some of the Netflix MCU shows were just bad.

I thought Captain Marvel was fine as well. There were multiple things just fine about that movie other than just Brie Larson to bring me to that conclusion. However, I do find it interesting how there has been a recent trend with me personally of preferring the version I've gotten with quite a few of these MCU characters in their respective team-up movies more so than their solo adventures. For instance, don't get me wrong, I like Black Panther and Chadwick Boseman in the Black Panther movie (outside of the horrendous CGI of that film which I struggle to get beyond), however, I LOVED what we got of him in his introduction in Civil War. In fact, he might be my favorite part of that whole movie. To list another, I thought Benedict Cumberbatch was good enough/fine in his Dr. Strange solo outing, but MUCH preferred what we got of him in Infiniti War/Endgame. He was great in that movie and was more of the character I had hoped to have gotten in his solo outing. Lastly, with Captain Marvel, I also preferred what we got of her in Endgame than her solo outing and why I'm still hopeful for her character moving forward. Unlike the other characters on here, I won't say I MUCH preferred the Endgame version of her simply because she didn't really get enough screen time to have quite that drastic of a differential.

There are definitely some tough critics of the MCU. Captain Marvel got a lot of flack for trying to do the girl power thing and hate for Brie Larson. The older MCU shows that were on Netflix were torn apart by critics. Some were successful, some not.

So, they've faced criticism and had ups and down in both film and shows.

I liked captain marvel, I feel like movies like the first two thor movies and the ant-man movies would be panned for just not being very good if they were DC/star wars/star trek movies of similar quality. People have a lot of investment in the marvel brand and want every movie to be great without the baggage of campqomparing it to an avengers movie from the 70s or 80s. I like the last two avengers movies but the first two are going to age horribly IMHO.

Where does Wandavision fit into the MCU timeline?

We don't know that exactly yet.

I get the sense they are telling us a lot without us realizing at this point, and after the series is over, you'll go back and re-watch realizing all the obvious little things you missed.

Ant-Man movies are wonderfully inventive with their visuals, use of the powers, and solid characters.

Thor The Dark World has been critiqued pretty hard. The first Ant Man was great in my opinion and the first Thor was a pretty good character intro.

Age of Ultron gets some flack as well because it wasn't as good as Civil War or the last two installments. I think the first Avengers movie is a classic and hard to find too much fault with.

All are better than pretty much any of the DC movies because they have some semblance of a bigger story. DC just doesn't have a big picture that makes any sense. They tried to build up to a Justice League movie like Marvel did with Avengers, but they only half introduced characters or glossed them over entirely.

Marvel movies aren't immune to criticism, but overall there has been a much more cohesive vision.

Watched the first two episodes of Wandavision over the weekend. Episode 1's dinner party could have been pulled from Nick at Night. Episode 2 they start playing with the premise and it starts to feel like the MCU. I imagine that will be more and more the case as the illusion is peeled away.

If you read any background wikipedia's of comic Scarlet Witch, you'll get a pretty good idea of what's happening, but I get the feeling there might be a twist or two.

Questions I'm left with are:
Was that Steve Rodgers on the radio? "Who's doing this to you Wanda?"
What is up with the beekeeper?

Agent Woo was on the radio.

I thought Vision was dead forever? Like Ironman?

Part of Scarlett Witch powers are to be able to bend reality. This has a House of M feel to it. Just a theory, but the loss of Vision in Infinity War may have caused her to have a mental breakdown and cause her to warp reality to bring him back.

We saw Thanos do something similar with the reality stone in the movies. But who knows at this point.

The first episode was just really weird, but not so weird that I wanted to stop watching. It was just such a different viewing experience from the usual MCU fare that it at first seemed like an out of body kind of experience to me.

The second episode was great, and now I'm hooked.

The Marvel movies, IMO, are what you get when a small group of dedicated enthusiasts get broad authority to build a movie universe they want. The DC movies are what you get when a established studio with layers of bureaucracy try and do what they think other guys did.

I'm glad they released two episodes right away. The first one is a table setter, with really only the final scene establishing the central premise of the show, that there is something very "off" about this world. The second episode builds on that a great deal including a mysterious cliff hanger ending. I think if they only ran the first episode they were concerned they'd lose audiences who just didn't get it.

I haven't seen WandaVision yet, but I like the fact that I can still read through this thread and not worry about spoilers since it seems like nobody else knows exactly what the **** is going on!

Read a Twitter thread about WandaVision and wow, I don’t think I should put that take even in spoilers.

I’m staying the hell away from general internet discussions for this series, because I’m sure are a lot of spoilers out there being posed as innocent “theories”.

One thing I have heard though are that reviewers got an advanced screening of the first THREE episodes and are basing their unanimous glowing reviews off of that. A few takes were from critics who admitted if they were only given the first two episodes to review, they would be a lot cooler on the series so far, so episode 3 will hopefully salvage the series for those who aren’t completely sold yet.

This is correct. One guy I listen to a pod for said the episodes keep getting better and he's seen all 3.
