Maybe, but I'd like to see at least another game before we decide that the defense is awful. It sure might be. Or maybe they'll figure out a few things.

Also Houston, we won 20-0. I don't call that a clunker. And not really evidence of the defense being average and unreliable. But, I don't really consider last year's defense to be as awful as it apparently was.

I’m not saying the defense sucks, just that its ceiling is lower than before all the injuries, and part of the complimentary football equation under Campbell has been very good scoring-defense.

I only brought up Houston to say Iowa State came out flat but stayed composed, unlike today. not worth relitigating, but IMHO defense pitching a shutout makes that final look a lot rosier. don’t believe defense was as banged up at that point as it would eventually be, that’s why CW said October on

I’m not saying last season’s defense was historically bad, but it was undeniably unreliable pretty much after the Houston game

I tend to be more knee-jerky-negative in aftermath of these games, but I selected 9-3.

I think (as a few others posted), getting BYU, ASU and KU all at home could help for at least one additional win. I've had at TCU as pencil-in loss for several months.

I shudder to think about losing at OSU.

It'd suck to lose at Colorado, of course.

I wouldn't. I was in school during the 15 in a row streak, and those days can never return. However, I would trade the Iowa win for the Cincinnati loss this year to keep ISU undefeated and in first place in the Big XII, but 10 in a row. Just NO!

The Conference Championship thing doesn't really bother me. In both 2020 and 2024, ISU would have been Big XII Champions if we had the same system that Oklahoma State had in 2011 or Iowa had the last time they won the B1G.

ISU is one of the better programs in the Big XII and will win the Big XII CCG soon enough. Most likely, not this year but soon enough.
Next year we win it all. Rocco, Hansen, Abu, Sowell, Townsend, Brahmer, Burkle will all be seniors. We return Eskildsen, Overby, Alexander, etc. O-line loses a few guys but I think they will be fine. Konrardy will be back at full health. Secondary doesn't lose much and I think most of the linebackers are back. McDonough and Orange will be big losses but there's potential with guys like Verdon, Hawk, and Moore.

Next year will be one of the best teams we have ever had.

Have to think we can win 2 out of 3 against ASU, BYU and KU, don't see a path to a victory at TCU, so we have to beat Colorado next week.

The Konrady loss was bigger today than the corners. It forced a lot of bad situations where we’d normally take the 3 and not let the momentum get away.

Need to get him back soon
Losing two all big 12 corners doesn’t help either. It really ties Heacocks hands in how he calls the defense and likely will the rest of the season

my expectations changed a lot once we lost both corners. Getting to 9-3 would be really good, even 8-4 would be fine with me given the schedule. Kansas, Arizona state, and Tcu ...all those are big asks right now I think. Figure out a way to beat Colorado, byu, and ok state and is my hope right now.

I think we are gonna be fine, however not having a great kicker is going to be worse than losing Jontez and Cooper.
I would have signed up for 5-1 in a heartbeat

7-5. Injury bug on top of WR group I still worry about.
IF the entire team was healthy, I think we get to 9 wins. IF the entire team was heathy and we had 1 or 2 more stud WRs I think we would have taken the BigXII.

Do you not think Townsend and Sowell have been studs?

Curious what your benchmark is for "stud" receivers. Please share

Holy **** I forgot how quick to bail on things this fanbase is. We’re 5-1, and really could be 6-0 if not for a few things on Saturday not going our way. Not saying we deserved to win in Cincy but it was there for the taking. I think 9-3/10-2 situation is still alive. I lean closer to 9-3 as I did to start the year.

As mentioned literally dozens of times on most CF content, it takes transfers 3-5 weeks to play well in our system. So basing it off the prior 4 games I would agree not great. But they both have hit their stride in our system IMO which would qualify them as studs.

I think the way college football works nowadays it's really easy to bail quickly. Texas Tech looks really solid, so you have like 5 teams playing for that 2nd spot in the Big 12 championship game. That makes your margin for error 0 right now. With the bowl system being a disaster, what becomes the point after that?

I can remember being fully invested in games late in the year because it gave us a chance at the Alamo Bowl, etc. Now, it's just hard to care once your playoff chances are gone. They've got to do away with conference bowl ties.

Well said, this was exactly my point as well!
