I don't hate Lolo, but don't really like her either. If she'd just shut up and run, I wouldn't have a problem with her Though no one would have even heard of her, in that case 
Because she doesn't have the personality and charisma. Because she's not hot. Because she doesn't have as good a manager? There are lots of reasons. It's no different than Shawn Johnson being more famous than Nastia Lukin.
Let's not downplay Lolo's achievements in her sport. She's the world record holder and has won multiple world events. She hit a hurdle and lost in 2008 and came back from a serious injury to do well in 2012. She's not Anna Kournakova
People don't "hate" Lolo, they just don't care to hear about her when she's shoved in your face for a year around the Olympics and you're supposed to love her just because she's an Iowan. Same thing happened with Shawn Johnson. I don't hate her by any stretch of the imagination, I just don't care to hear about her and be told how I'm supposed to think she's amazing just because she's an Iowan. Gabby Douglas also qualifies here.
Maybe because she and her teammate behave like this on national TV.

I agree with this and would add that Lolo has two other things going against her:
1) SJ and Gabby and a lot of the other ultra-hyped US athletes eventually justified their hype with medals. Unfortunate circumstances or accidents notwithstanding, Lolo has never delivered on the Olympic stage so, for a large group of people, will always be perceived as a disappointing creation of the media. That's probably unfair because obviously she's acheived at unbelievably high level, but that's how it works for Olympic sport athletes.
2) She seems incredibly thin skinned. Maybe this is also unfair due to her excessive media exposure, but she seems to take any criticism extremely personally, regardless of context or source. For example, look at the dumb comments she made on Twitter to that paralyzed Rutgers player because she couldn't ignore a perceived slight.
I love how they hate Lolo b/c of how the media portrays her. Cracks me up. It's like people hating Tim Tebow b/c ESPN talks about him to much. Or how somebody hates a certain song b/c it's on the radio to much
She is pretty cool on twitter. Once in a while she says something odd, but overall a good ambassador for Iowa.
Probably the same people that watch Jersey Shore and whatever show that honey boo boo is on.
I get where you're coming from and if Harper is miffed she's not getting marketing acceptance (maybe she doesn't care) she has a valid point.
But.....LoLo was in the lead for that Gold Medal in the 2008 Olympic race until she hit the second to last hurdle. The thing that impressed me was the way she expressed and carried herself with dignity and accepted her fate on missing a lifelong dream.
And yet you needed to get in a quick jab at something you personally don't care for?
